“Well,we’rehappy you’re here, Morgan,” Len said, giving me a small hug. “Anyway, who’s hungry? I want lunch.”
“Me!” Lupa and Leveret called at the same time.
“You go on ahead,” Dax told them. “We’ll catch up.”
Sensing we needed to have a private talk, Hugo and Len gathered the twins and left us alone. From the moment I’d mentioned Rock, Dax simmered with rage. He was protective of me even before I was pregnant, but every passing day of my pregnancy his feelings intensified. He barely let me go to the bathroom alone anymore. I didn’t find it stifling, though. After a life spent in involuntary solitude, it warmed my heart to have a constant companion who would doanythingfor me.
“Morgan, are you sure you don’t want me to find this Rock and teach him a lesson?” Dax growled. “Because I can, and I will. No one treats my mate like that and gets away with it.”
I gave him a wry smile. “I appreciate the offer, but there’s no point. He’s not the type tolearna lesson even if you taught him one.”
“Just so it’s clear, by lesson I mean kicking his ass.”
I chuckled and ran a hand through Dax’s hair. “I know, wolf. He’s not worth the effort. Spend that time with me and the baby instead. We need your attention more than he does.”
Dax kept grumbling but bowed his head. “You’re right.” He sighed. “Fine. But if I everdorun into him again—”
“Dax.”
“What?”
“Just shut up and kiss me.”
He crushed his mouth against mine, and that was the end of that conversation.
