The next morning,I woke in a daze. It took me a minute to remember why I hadn’t woken up in the grove. But with Morgan’s warm body curled up next to me, the answer became clear. I smiled at the sight of him and brushed the hair away from his face. He roused at my touch and sat up.
“Morning,” he said, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
“Good morning.” I gave him a quick peck on the cheek, which made him blush. I got up and stretched. “I’m surprised the whole pack didn’t come looking for me.”
Morgan followed suit, stretching out his long body. “Well, with all the noise we made last night, I’m sure they knew we didn’t want to be interrupted.”
I laughed. “True. You weren’t joking about being loud, huh?”
“Hey, I warned you.”
I nodded my head in the direction of a nearby stream. “Come on. Let’s go get cleaned up before we head back.”
Morgan followed me to the water. I thought he might not want to take a dip after his earlier mishap across the river, but this was a smaller body with calmer waters. He stripped and slipped right in. The water rose to his knees, leaving his cock bare for me to enjoy.
“Are you gonna join me or are you going to stare, wolf?” Morgan asked with a raised brow.
I grinned and got in the cool water, still unable to take my eyes off him. “Can’t I do both?”
He snorted and splashed me. Even though we were two grown men, it quickly dissolved into a splash fight. I usually didn’t partake in such immature things but being around Morgan made me feel lighter and less serious. Plus, we got clean faster, so it was a win-win.
“I hope Sage never hears about this,” I mumbled after as we put our clothes back on.
“Why?”
“He’d never let me live it down.”
“For splashing water?”
I nodded as I shoved my legs into my pants. “He thinks of me as his big, serious older brother. He’s usually the one who does silly things like this.”
“So because you’re the oldest brother, you can’t have fun? That makes no sense,” Morgan said with a chuckle. “You’re as entitled to enjoy yourself as much as anyone else.”
“I guess.” I scratched the back of my head. “I’ve never thought of it like that.”
Morgan met my gaze calmly. He hadn’t put his shirt on yet so I forced myself not to stare at his rugged chest. “You know, we’re pretty similar. We’re serious older guys, right?”
“Hey now, we’re notthatold.”
He snorted. “You know what I mean. I’ve been around younger members of the herd for a long time. It’s like they think after a certain age you stop having fun. That’s a silly mentality to have.”
I paused, then asked a question that had been on my mind for a while. “Were you the oldest unmated omega in your herd?”
Morgan seemed surprised by the question, but not upset. He nodded. “Why?”
“It’s not the same, but… I felt odd when Hugo found his mate before I did. I was happy for him, of course, but I thought because I was the oldest, it should’ve happened to me first.”
“I get you,” Morgan said, putting his hand on my shoulder. “Love is strange, isn’t it?”
My heart flipped at the word. Was Morgan insinuating what I thought he was?
“You can say that again,” I mumbled.
After getting dressed, we returned to the grove. It was midmorning and the sun beamed overhead while lazy clouds drifted over the bright blue sky.
“Welcome back, you two,” Len remarked as we loped into the ring of trees. There was a sly look on his face, as if he knew exactly where we’d been and what we’d been up to. Thankfully he was busy dealing with the twins so he didn’t make any comments about it.
