As we left, I heard Jake mumble to Griffin, “I always knew those two were going to get together. You owe me five bucks. Pay up.”

We couldn’t get home fast enough.
Then I caught myself thinking thathomeincluded Skylar, as if he’d already moved in. But that was a conversation for another time.
I’d purchased a home pregnancy test a few days ago and it sat patiently on the bathroom counter like some kind of holy idol. Skylar ripped the packaging open.
“I hope it’s been long enough,” he mumbled, tossing the cardboard into the recycling bin.
“If not, we’ll just wait another few days. Pregnancy tests are cheap.” I winked. “And we better have nonstop sex to make sure it works next time.”
He groaned and shooed me out of the room. I didn’t wanna be creepy by listening in on him peeing, so I paced around the apartment. I was already thinking of how we could convert my games room into a nursery. Or maybe we could have a games room slash nursery and the baby could grow up to be the best gamer the world had ever seen.
“Raf?”
Skylar’s voice pulled me back to the bathroom. He sat on the rim of the tub, his back facing me and the test between his fingers. From this angle I couldn’t see his expression, but I prayed it was good.
“What’s up?” I asked.
My heart thudded faster with anticipation. When he didn't reply, I got nervous. I approached him and put my hand on his shoulder. It took all my effort not to simply strain and read the result, but I thought this washismoment. I wanted Skylar to be the one to tell me.
“What is it, baby?” I asked again when he was quiet.
When he turned, I realized why. His face was soaked with joyful tears and he wore a huge beaming smile. He looked brighter than the sun.
“I’m pregnant, Raf,” he said in a shaky voice.
“Oh my god.”
The floodgates of all my protective instincts burst open. I wrapped my arms around Skylar, happy and excited and worried all at once. Would Skylar be safe and happy during his pregnancy? Would our baby be healthy? Would I be able to look after them both? All of a sudden, questions that had never even crossed my mind were all I could think about.
But I wasn’t going to let them take over this moment. Above all, I was deliriously happy. I nuzzled my cheek against Skylar’s and grinned when he moaned and complained about my stubble.
“I know you think it’s sexy,” I said.
“It is,” he admitted. With a quirked brow, he said, “Too bad we already know I’m pregnant, so we don’t have to go at it like animals anymore.”
“Oh?” I pulled him a little closer, dipping his back so he was at an angle over the tub. “Says who?”
He blushed a deep red. “Cut it out, asshole, you’re gonna drop me.”
“I’ll never drop you,” I promised and kissed him. “Especially when you’re carrying precious cargo.”
His whole face lit up like Christmas decorations. “Oh my god, are you gonna be this cheesy for myentirepregnancy?”
“Oh, absolutely. Brace yourself for it.”
Skylar groaned but he was laughing. “What have I gotten myself into with you?”
“It’s not too late to back out,” I teased.
Skylar rolled his eyes. “Ha ha. So funny. I would’ve pissed myself if I hadn’t just pissed on that stick.”
“You sure Axel isn’t waiting in his dirty apartment to scoop you back up?”
Skylar paused and I wondered if I took the joke too far. I leaned back, allowing him to sit up properly when it seemed like he wanted to say something.
