Clutching his mug, Skylar followed me down the hall. I opened the door to the game room. A decently sized couch stood before the flatscreen TV with a handful of console controllers on the floor.
“Don’t judge the mess, I didn’t expect company,” I said. “Anyway, like I said before, this door locks, so all you need is a pillow and blanket. I’ll grab those for you right now.”
But as I went to dash to the linen closet, I noticed the frown on Skylar’s face.
“What’s wrong?” I asked.
“It’s a couch.”
“Yeah? Is that okay?”
Judging by his deep frown, I guessed something was wrong. He didn’t want to sleep on a couch for whatever reason. Maybe he was expecting something more fancy, like a guest bedroom. Or maybe there was something else…
“You know what? Don’t worry about it,” I said. “You can sleep in my room instead. If you want to, I mean.”
“You’d… let me do that?” Skylar asked, wide-eyed.
“Sure. I crash on the couch all the time, and you clearly want the bed more than I do.”
Even though my comment was meant to be playful, Skylar winced and looked away. “Sorry, it’s just… I know it sounds weird, but I don’t want to sleep on a couch right now. I…”
He trailed off. The topic seemed strangely painful for him, so I didn’t want to pry.
“No worries. My room’s all yours,” I said. “Whatever makes you comfortable.”
He gave me a sheepish smile. A blush colored his cheeks. “Thanks.”
Seeing him vulnerable endeared me to him. Not that I didn’t think the fiery omega was already cute, but seeing him like this made me feel strangely protective. I wanted everything to be okay for him, and I would do whatever I could to make it happen.
I grabbed a pillow and blanket for my night on the couch, then hung out in the hall to make sure Skylar had everything he needed.
“Bathroom’s down the hall, and I’m right across from you. Just wake me up if you need anything, I won’t mind.”
Skylar nodded. “Um… Actually, I’d like to take a shower. Do you have spare clothes? I don’t really want to sleep in this, or my work uniform. I just feel kind of dirty.”
I watched him for a moment and wondered if he meant physically or emotionally--or even both. I nodded and pulled out a comfortable old t-shirt and a black pair of sweats, along with the smallest pair of underwear I owned.
Skylar murmured athanks, then handed me the half-drunk mug and disappeared into the bathroom. I waited up for him to make sure he was okay before I passed out.
Twenty minutes later, I roused from my dozing off as he exited the bathroom, followed by billowing steam. He looked tiny in my clothes. My shirt hung off his shoulder, and the sweats pooled by his ankles. I could only imagine how big my underwear was on him. Then I caught myself mid-thought thinking about Skylar in my underwear and pushed the idea from my mind.
“Guessing they don’t fit,” I joked.
“They’ll do for one night,” he said, his lip quirking upwards. “Thanks again. Um… I guess I’ll try to sleep now.”
I nodded. “Sure. See you in the morning.”
Skylar didn’t reply. He nodded at me one last time before ducking into my bedroom and shutting the door.
I collapsed on the gaming room couch and sighed.
“What a night,” I mumbled to myself.
An omega I barely knew was sleeping in my bed--not just in my bedroom, butinmy bed. I realized with some embarrassment that I should’ve probably at least changed the sheets, but I’d forgotten. Not that they were dirty, but the idea made me blush anyways. It kinda felt like something out of a romantic movie.
I snorted.Yeah, right.
I was just helping out the friend of a friend. It was what anybody would have done. I just happened to be at the right place at the right time. After all, who would just abandon someone they knew on the street? And a lone omega, at that.
