I noticed Trouble, the orange cat, huddled behind the couch. He had the same glaring expression that Kaden wore. I thought it was funny that Kaden’s cat hated me while Skylar’s cat felt the opposite way, judging by the fact that she was currently rubbing her head on my leg and getting cat hair all over my pants.
Kaden mulled over my words, but I wasn’t sure if he believed me or not. To be honest, it wasn’t really any of his business what went on between two grown men, but I knew Kaden’s suspicion came from a place of concern for his friend.
“Can I ask you something?” Kaden said.
“Sure.”
His gaze was wary. “Do you know anything about why Skylar’s being so… cagey lately?” His eyes narrowed a bit. “And does it have anything to do with you?”
Oh, right. I forgot Skylar’s been keeping secrets from everyone except me.
“Er, I’m not really at liberty to say,” I told him.
“So you do know,” Kaden stated, his voice cold. “You just won’t tell me.”
“It’s not that I don’t want to,” I said as gently as possible. “But I’m not sure if Skylar wants me telling other people his business, you know?”
Kaden’s expression got increasingly annoyed. “I guess,” he said stiffly. Suddenly he froze and said, “Oh my god, you didn’t knock him up, did you?”
I was at a loss for words. Kaden was so close, yet so off the mark--and guessing by the crude way he’d asked the question, he didn’t think positively about the scenario.
I decided to pick my words carefully. “I think this is a conversation you should be having with Skylar, not me.”
But that obviously didn’t win me any points with Kaden. He looked torn between rage and despair.
“You did, didn’t you?” he snapped.
“Kaden--”
“What’s wrong with you? You think you can just show up here, make Skylar break down into tears, then get him pregnant?”
I wanted to curse under my breath. Kaden had entirely the wrong idea--but then again, I couldn’t blame him. He’d only met me twice, and neither of those times were on the best terms. He probably knew me best as the guy who upset Skylar and then ran away. He didn’t know anything about all the good times we shared because they were all linked to Skylar’s secret--the one he didn’t want anyone else knowing.
“Listen,” I said firmly. “It’s not like that, okay?”
“Whatever, man,” Kaden muttered. “Just get out of my apartment already.”
I bit my lip and checked my watch. If I stayed any longer, I’d be late for work. But if I left now, would I just be proving Kaden right? I’d look like I stayed over for sex and nothing else--especially since Skylar was still fast asleep.
Fuck, it really does look like I’m sneaking out after a booty call, doesn’t it?
I pinched the bridge of my nose and exhaled. “Fine, I’m going. But just know that I care about Sky, okay?”
Kaden looked even more suspicious of me using Skylar’s nickname so openly.
“I guess we’ll see,” Kaden said mildly.
Unfortunately, I really couldn’t afford to spend anymore time talking to Kaden if I wanted to get to work on time. I gave him a curt and polite goodbye and headed out. Demon wailed behind me, following me all the way to the door with her tail held high. I probably dashed her hopes for a second breakfast.

I physically gotto work on time, but my brain apparently missed the memo that I was supposed to be actually working andnotdaydreaming about Skylar.
I kept replaying scenes in my head about our time together last night. Each memory made my heart flutter. I felt like a stupid kid with a crush, except I was a grown man in my early thirties with a full-time job that I wassupposedto be doing. But with no mind-police, I was free to think about Skylar as much as I wanted in the privacy of my own head.
As I clacked away at the keyboard, I thought about Skylar with his head pressed into the pillow, a deep pink blush across his soft cheeks, the slight part of his lips with his tongue glistening, begging for me to claim it with my own. I thought about the desperate cries of pleasure that spilled from his mouth as I worked his cute cock, milking the cum out of it until it spilled all over my hand.
My pants tightened uncomfortably.
