He stepped closer, still wearing that model-perfect smile. “Is that right?”

Yeah, I just said that.I felt annoyed but used the last of my work-energy to keep a pleasant expression.

“Well, I’ve got cats at home that need to be fed. I have another shift tomorrow if you want to talk then,” I said, trying to keep things upbeat and casual. “See you.”

Shane reached out and grabbed my arm. A cold tremble went through my body. Nice guy or not, I didn’t want some random man grabbing me--especially not an alpha.

Especially not when it was late and nobody else was around.

“Shane, let go of me. Please,” I said as firmly as possible. “If you want something, you can wait until tomorrow.”

He kept beaming at me. That smile that I thought looked picturesque now looked ugly and out-of-place. I wanted to wipe it off his face.

“I said let go!” I snapped, yanking my arm out of his grip.

Or at least trying to, because Shane didn’t let go.

“I just want to talk to you,” he said pleasantly. “Outside of work. We’re allowed to be a little more familiar that way, right?”

Fear started tainting my blood. I didn’t want to spend one more second with this guy.

This’ll teach me never to trust a perfect-looking guy like him ever again.

“I’m sorry, but I really have to go home,” I said, trying not to let the panic seep into my voice. I didn’t want him to know I was scared now, but it was probably obvious by my wide eyes and clammy skin.

“Don’t be afraid, Skylar,” Shane said, his smile turning into a slight pout. “I just want to get to know you. Is that so wrong? I mean, I don’t look like a thug or anything, do I?”

Done. I was so done. I wanted a hundred feet between me and Shane immediately.

But with the way his fingers dug into my skin, that clearly wasn’t happening.

I steadied my breathing. “I’m going to call for help if you don’t let go. I’m serious.” I narrowed my eyes. “And don’t even think about coming to the Omega Angel Café ever again. I’ll have you banned.”

Shane chuckled. “I don’t need the other omegas. But I do like you.”

With his other hand, he reached for me.

But he never got to touch me with it, because suddenly he was tackled into the wall.

Rafael

I’d never been so fucking pissed off in my life.

Earlier in the night I waffled on whether or not I should even visit Skylar after work to try and talk things out. Now I was glad I listened to my gut.

The sight of him alone, with some alpha looming over him in what was obviouslynota wanted interaction made my blood boil. It ripped the air from my lungs and filled them with fire. As the alpha reached for Skylar, my body reacted on its own. There was no waiting to see what happened. There were no words that would defuse this.

It needed action.

I shouldered into the alpha like a bull, knocking him into the wall of the building, and most importantly, away from Skylar. He whirled on me in a panic, face filled with confusion and anger. Skylar gasped.

“Rafael?”

Hearing the utter relief in Skylar’s voice as he said my name made me realize I’d made the right decision.

“Get off me!” the man snarled.
