“When the fertilelands grow barren,
Seek the chosen one to awaken;
Only when opposites love together,
like bidding farewell to spring,
Can we end the suffering;
Seeds grown as one are the key,
To set the shifters free.”
I tookthe brief silence that followed to compose myself, then tried again.
“So, to clear it up… I found love in not one alpha, but three. That makes four of us in total, just like the number of distinct petals on the farewell-to-spring flower,” I explained. “Does that make sense?”
Now the looks of confusion turned shaken and disconcerted.
“Three?” Gabrielle asked, offendedly putting a hand to her chest as if I’d just told her I didn’t like her outfit. “What do you mean you found love inthreealphas?”
Dan and Linda looked equally baffled. Only my parents seemed to innately understand what I was talking about. Mom and Dad glanced at me with sympathy in their eyes.
I rubbed my arm. “Well, I love all three of these men equally.” I turned to them and smiled. “Ramsay, Colton and Eric. All three of them are my fated mates.”
Ramsay grinned. “Reporting for duty.”
Colton smiled gently, and Eric nodded, encouraging me to go on.
“Is that possible?” Victor, Gabrielle’s mate, asked.
“Yes,” I said firmly. “I know because I’m living it.”
I didn’t want to sound like I was being rude to Colton’s father, not to mention a pack leader, but I wasn’t going to stand here and listen to anybody discount my relationships just because they didn’t understand them.
Mom nodded. “But that’s not the whole meaning, is it, Matheson? What’s the rest?”
This was the part I was both excited about, and dreading.
How were they going to react? Would they evenbelieveme?
“Go on,” Colton murmured. His thumb stroked the back of my hand in little circles. “Tell them.”
I heard the sound of my own heart pounding. Why was this so difficult?
“So, the part about seeds grown as one being the key,” I began, staring into the crackling fire. “It’s…”
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Noro’s tail slowly flicking back and forth like a pendulum.
“It’s about a baby,” I said in a small, shaky voice.
Though it was quiet, everyone heard. I knew because heavy silence fell upon the island. For a moment, nobody spoke. I had to break the quiet.
“It’s about a baby born from all four of us,” I continued.
“Matheson, what are you talking about?” Dad asked gently.
Come on. Just do it. Just say it already.
I sighed and raised my head. “What I’m trying to say is… I’m pregnant.”
