“Can I come too?” Ramsay asked. “Maybe it’ll help if we put our heads together.”
I watched the two hesitantly, unsure how this would play out. Ramsay and Eric didn’t always see eye-to-eye. But I was surprised to see Eric’s mouth quirk into a small smile.
“Yes, I think that would be useful,” Eric said. “Come on. And don’t mind the mess around my desk.”
“Oh, I won’t judge you for that,” Ramsay promised with a slow grin.
The two disappeared upstairs, leaving Colton, Neil and I behind.
Neil stood and left, muttering, “I think I’ll take that walk Eric suggested. I’ll be back soon.”
I rubbed my arm, feeling a bit restless myself. “Me too.”
Neil paused. I realized as soon as I said it that it sounded like I wanted to take a walkwithNeil, a thought that was confirmed when a smile spread across his lips. As much as I didn’t want to be around him right now, it was already too late to back out.
Part of me felt guilty. Neil was my protector, too. He always guarded me and my family and it was his responsibility to keep me safe, just like the other alphas. I knew deep down he didn’t have any ill-will towards me, he just wasn’t good at expressing himself. I also got the feeling he felt insecure around the other three. Maybe a moment alone with him would calm him down and help me to explain myself.
I turned to Colton. “I’m gonna walk with Neil for a bit.”
Colton blinked, seeming a bit surprised. “Okay. What should I do?”
“Why don’t you go upstairs and help the others?” I suggested.
Colton nodded. “All right.”
He glanced back at me with his icy blue eyes, then slowly made his way upstairs to join Eric and Ramsay.
“Come on, Matheson,” Neil said with a gentle smile.
I followed as Neil waved for me to come along.
