Eric just nodded stiffly, not looking back at me. With a pang of disappointment I left him behind to stare out the window while I joined the others.
“Hey,” Ramsay greeted, giving me a kiss on the forehead while stirring a bowl of something. I noticed more wild greens on the counter, probably from the fridge. “How’d your chat with grumpy go?”
“Stop,” I said gently. “He’s not grumpy, just shy, I think.”
Colton gave me a quick kiss on the cheek as well, which made me blush at all the sudden attention compared to my conversation with Eric.
“We missed you,” Colton said.
I laughed lightly. “I wasn’t gone, I was just over there!”
“Still.” Colton nuzzled my head like a dog. “I don’t want to leave tomorrow. I wanna stay here with Matheson.”
Ramsay poured the contents into a tray. “Then stay, dude. Like I said, you’re a grown man. You can do whatever the hell you want. Who cares if you’re technically trespassing on South Pack territory?”
“So is Eric,” Colton pointed out. “And he’s the leader of his pack.”
“You’re right,” I said, suddenly frowning. “Do you think his pack is okay without him? Er, are pack leaders even allowed to leave their territory? Especially since he doesn’t have a mate or a partner...”
Ramsay shrugged. “Beats me. I ain’t a pack leader yet. The guy can probably do whatever he wants since he’s the boss. And he’s so uptight that I don’t doubt he has tons of guards, like five feet apart on each border, to keep the place safe.”
“He did mention that he keeps his borders well patrolled,” I agreed. “Though probably not that extreme…”
“Has he started flirting with you yet?” Colton asked, suddenly and bluntly changing the subject.
“N-no, not really,” I replied.
“Good, ‘cause tonight I want you for myself,” Ramsay purred in my ear, sending a shiver down my spine.
“Hey, no jealousy, remember?” I said with a smirk. “That includes Eric, too.”
He stuck his tongue out. “Fine.”
“If you’re having sex with Matheson, and Eric is staying the night,” Colton began, an innocent look of confusion on his face, “then where am I going to sleep?”
Ramsay choked, which quickly turned into a hearty laugh. “I dunno. Why don’t you just sleep with us?”
Colton considered this. “How can I sleep if you’re having sex right next to me?”
Ramsay groaned dramatically and I laughed at both of them.
“Colton,” I said gently, “unless I’m mistaken, I think he’s saying you should join in.”
“Oh!” Colton nodded. “Sure, I can do that.”
“All the fish oil’s gotten to this guy’s head,” Ramsay muttered.
I glanced over to Eric, who was still brooding by the rain-soaked window. Part of me wanted to ask if he wanted to join, too, but I wasn’t sure how comfortable the others would be with him there. Hell, I hadn’t even kissed Eric yet--or even knew if hewantedto kiss me. Even though a deep part of me yearned to know him better, I couldn’t read how he felt about the love part of the prophecy.
It’ll come in time, just like Noro said,I reminded myself.Whoever is my fated mate, I’ll definitely find it out.
