Chapter 11

“Rise ‘n shine!”

Ramsay’s voice startled me awake. Morning light shone through the barn windows and the air was filled with the delicious scent of various breakfast foods.

I looked over, expecting to see Colton, but I found myself alone in bed again.

“Why do these guys keep running off on me?” I grumbled.

I rolled out of bed and got ready for the day, including showering and giving my face a good scrub. When I came out of the bathroom, I saw Ramsay and Colton in the kitchen together. I realized he must have gotten up before me to help with breakfast.

“I didn’t notice you get up,” I remarked to Colton, taking a seat at the counter.

“No.” He dished me out a plate and a glass of coffee. “You sleep like a baby.”

“No nightmares this time?” Ramsay asked as he slid behind me. He planted a sneak kiss on the back of my neck, which made me yelp.

“Actually no, I slept well,” I admitted.

Ramsay grinned and patted Colton heartily on the back. “Good. That means Colt did a good job of knocking you the hell out.”

I blushed fiercely. “Oh--you knew, huh?”

Ramsay winked and handed me a stack of pancakes. “I gave you the bed for a reason, didn’t I?”

“Are you saying you set us up to have sex?” I asked, shoveling pancakes on my plate and drenching them in syrup.

“Maybe.” Ramsay tossed a cut strawberry in his mouth. “Hope I get a turn next.”

I raised an eyebrow. “Maybe we can have this conversationafterbreakfast. Anyway, what’s happening today?”

Colton leaned on the counter. “I should probably head back before my parents come looking for me. They’re used to me wandering off, but I’m usually never gone this long.” He took a sip of coffee. “And I didn’t exactly tell them I was going to be at South Pack.”

Ramsay scoffed. “You have totellyour parents you’re going somewhere? You’re a grown man.”

Colton shrugged. “Mom’s been acting fussy since the whole prophecy thing started. She likes to be in control, so she’s probably afraid of the unknown.”

“Makes sense,” I agreed. “I mean, nobody was really prepared for any of this. Except Noro.”

“Just wish he’d be a little less vague about the whole prophecy crap,” Ramsay muttered.

“I don’t think he knows much about it, otherwise I’m sure he would be,” I said gently. “At least he gave us a little bit of help in the first place, otherwise I wouldn’t have known where to start.”

I sighed, remembering my nightmare about the gryphons attacking me. Noro said they would find out about me sooner or later, though I was seriously praying forlater. I didn’t stand a chance against an army of angry gryphons. On top of that, I knew a month’s time was only an estimate, and they could easily show up at any time to try and steal me away.

To become their breeder,I thought with a chill. Noro’s exact words had been, ‘until the day I die.’ That was a hardno, thank youfrom me.

But even with Noro’s hint about me finding love amongst the three alphas, when it came to anything about magic or whatnot, I was completely clueless. Hell, I didn’t even know I wascapableof magic. How was I supposed to know what to do? And how would it help the shifters?

I sank my face into my folded arms with a heavy sigh.

Ramsay patted me on the back. “All right, I know you’re stuck in your thoughts in that pretty little head of yours, but now’s not the time. Now, chin up and eat some breakfast.”

“Fine,” I mumbled.

“Is it okay if you two escort me back to the shoreline?” Colton asked in between polite bites of bacon. “I’d go myself, except I’m afraid your packmates wouldn’t be so pleased to see a North Pack wolf wandering around alone.”

“No prob,” Ramsay reassured him. “Hear that, Mathe? We have important shit to do, so stop thinking so hard and eat some pancakes.”
