Elijah
The air smelled sweet and floral, and the sun’s late afternoon rays warmed my skin. It was finally nice enough to wear a simple tight shirt, and I wasn’t going to waste the opportunity. After a stuffy and cold winter, I was bursting with excitement for spring.
A few feet away, River entertained himself chewing on a hollow bone. He enjoyed lying in the grass and soaking up the sun as much as I did, and was content to laze around when he wasn’t actively working.
I checked the time on my smart watch, which told me in an automated voice that it was almost five o’clock. Felix was due any minute now and my chest was filled with butterflies. I hadn’t felt this way about anyone in a long time, and frankly, it was almost frightening. I was a big, strong alpha, and I wasn’t scared of much--but this feeling was one of them.
What was I so worried about? That Felix was going to slip out of my grasp and leave? He didn’t seem like the type of person to ghost me and disappear. But if I was being honest with myself, I didn’t know him very well. Despite having sex and spending hours talking with each other, we’d still only met once.
What was Felix’s greatest fear? What were his hopes and dreams? What did he love, and what did he hate?
The latent twinge in my cock died down. I’d been looking forward to having sex again, of course, but getting to know him was more important. I never wanted to be one of those alphas who thought with my dick instead of my brain.
Damn logic.
River suddenly stopped chewing on his bone. He knew Felix had arrived. His tags jingled as he bolted inside and towards the door moments before the bell rang. I followed suit, my blood racing with excitement.
“Felix?” I called.
“It’s me.”
My heart flipped at the sound of his voice. It had only been a few days, but I’d craved hearing it again.
When I threw the door open, he hugged me, releasing a strong whiff of his scent. He was just as soft and sweet-smelling as I remembered.
“Come in,” I said.
“Is it weird to say I missed you?” Felix said shyly.
I stroked his cheek, which had already begun turning warm. “Not at all. I felt the same way.”
“Heh. Oh, hang on, let me say hi to River.” I heard the position of his voice change as he lowered himself to River’s level. River’s tail thwacked against my leg. “Hi, buddy.”
“That damn dog always gets more attention than me,” I muttered.
“It’s because he’s so cute. Isn’t that right, River?”
River panted.
“Cuter than me?” I asked.
“Well, I wouldn’t say you’recute,” Felix said, sounding amused. “You’re more hot and sexy. Especially in that tight shirt when I can see all your muscles.”
I grinned. “Fair enough. I’ll take it.”
We strolled back to the yard. Despite my limited vision, I knew where the back door’s threshold began because of the contrast of the dark indoors and bright yard. As I stepped into the sun again with Felix by my side, I felt a sense of peace and happiness. It feltright, like this should be a recurring scene in the rest of my life. An omega by my side, enjoying the outdoors and the sunshine with me.
“Wow, it’s nice out here,” Felix murmured. “And you got an extra chair for me?”
“I do have friends that come over, you know,” I teased as I slipped into the lounge chair.
After Felix took a seat beside me, he paused. “Can I ask you an awkward question?”
“Shoot.”
“Sorry if this is offensive, but how do you know not to step on landmines?”
