Saturday rolled around. I woke with a mix of determination and caution, unsure of what the day would bring. The café opened at 9AM on Saturday, so Skylar and I needed to be out of the house by 8:30. Thankfully, the place was in walking distance of our apartment, which was the only thing giving it Jake Points so far.

I leaned on Skylar’s door. “So are we walking thereinuniform, or?”

Skylar opened the door. He was half-dressed, shirtless and wearing khaki pants. “Who iswe? I’m the one wearing the costume, not you.”

“I don’t see you wearing a costume,” I said. “And I don’t think khaki is part of the dress code there.”

He blushed. “Well, I’m notwalkingthere wearing it! I’m gonna change when I get there.”

“Oh.”

For some reason I hadn’t even thought about that. My uniform at my job at the pet store was pretty casual - dark-colored pants and a t-shirt with the store’s logo on it - so I just walked out of the house wearing it.

“Well, we better get going soon,” I said. “Those alphas aren't going to wait forever.”

“Okay, okay. I'll be out in a second,” Skylar said. “Just wait outside for me.”

He shut the door in my face. I grumbled and went to the couch to sit down. A few minutes later Skylar came out wearing what might have been a Halloween costume. It resembled a long frilly apron with a skirt-like bottom. It was white with some blue and gold accents, mostly on the lace portions. On his legs were a pair of black stockings that contrasted with the white top.

Skylar smiled shyly and turned around, showing off the little wings on the back. To top it all off, a small golden halo was outfitted to his head by a headband. In short, he looked really cute, but a bit ridiculous.

“What do you think?” Skylar asked.

I raised a brow and said, “Do you really want me to answer that question?”

Skylar pouted. “Not if you're going to be mean about it.”

I smiled. “I won't be mean. I think you look cute actually.”

Skylar looked surprised. “Really?”

“Yeah, I replied. “But I thought you weren't going out dressed like that?”

Skylar shrugged. “I'm not. I just wanted to show you what it looked like so we can get all themaking fun of mestuff out of the way.”

“Oh, come on, I’m not gonna make fun of you. Look, it's not even as bad as I thought. It's just very... frilly.”

Skylar looked a bit unsure. “You really don't think it's creepy or anything?”

I shook my head. “No, definitely not creepy. You just look like one of those little valentine’s babies.”

Seeing Skylar’s sad puppy eyes made me feel bad for teasing him before. In all honesty, he really didn't look bad. It was just that seeing him in such a cutesy outfit was a bit strange, but I'm sure I would get used to it. I walked up to him and give him a pat on the shoulder.

“Come on, you look fine. You’re actually really cute,” I said. “Now get back in there and change so we can get going.”

“Okay,” Skylar said with a smile. He disappeared into his bedroom and reappeared a moment later wearing his normal clothes. Thankfully this time he was fully dressed.

“All right,” I said. “Now let's go see what this café is all about.”

* * *

For what it's worth, the place didn't really seem that bad from the outside. Just a normal café with bright windows, a cute logo over the striped awning, and most surprisingly, a line of people outside the door. Even Skylar looked shocked to see just how many people were waiting to get inside.

“Shit,” I muttered.Am I really going to have to wait with all these people?

Skylar looked at me sympathetically. “I guess you'll have to wait in line, seeing as you're not an employee. But maybe it won't be so bad.”
