Of course he will, I thought angrily.I’ll tell him about thebaby.Soon.
But the promise sounded hollow inmymind.
He was still ignoring me - or at least, he was too busy to give a shit. He was apparently destined for greater things than taking care of some exiled omega. Leading this rag-tag group of shifters to overthrow Gunner was a more noble cause than making sure my feelings weren’t hurt. Maybe I just needed to grow up andacceptthat.
Still, I needed to say something before my baby bump became visible. I could lie at first and say I was getting a lot to eat, but that excuse wouldn’t work for very long. Plus, I never knew when the lingering alpha scent of my pills would wear off. If that happened, everybody could scent the pregnancy on me. Then I’d really be shit outofluck.
Did Virgil evenwanta baby? We never discussed it. Hell, Virgil hadn’t even said he wanted to be my mate. Just because we had sex didn’t mean we were mated. He hadn’t claimed me, or showed any interestinit.
I stifled the urge to groan. I didn’t know what the fuck Virgilwanted.
But I was tired of thinking about Virgil when I was supposed to be taking a walk to clear my thoughts. I sped up my pace, crunching leaves underneathmyfeet.
“Whoa, wait up!” Colin called, catching uptome.
I’d nearly forgotten Colin was here. “Sorry.”
“Nah. You couldn’t outrun me anyway,” he said withagrin.
What’s that supposed to mean?I thoughtirritably.
I stopped, realizing how far I’d walked in a daze. The sounds of the camp were even furtherawaynow.
“We should head back,”Isaid.
But as I turned around, Colin’s hand on my shoulder stopped me in mytracks.
“Wait.”
I looked at him inconfusion. “What?”
Colin’s eyes flashed as he gazed at me intently. “Don’t you think we should stay out here a bitlonger?”
“What are you talking about?” At this point, I was tired, full, and just wanted to sleep. The walk had done its job; I was ready topassout.
But Colin didn’tbudge.
“I mean… It’s not like we get a lot of time to ourselves,” he said in a low voice. “You know. Just the twoofus.”
Discomfort crawled on my skin like insects. I shivered and tried to step back, out of his grasp, but itwasfirm.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I growled. It was only now that I realized how much bigger than me he was - and how far away from camp we were. Fear made me break out into asweat.
“You really can’t tell?” he asked, letting out a pained laugh. “Ilikeyou,Hector.”
I stared at him in shock anddisbelief.
Colin smiled. “Even with your scarred eye and clumsiness.” He chuckled, taking a step closer. “And the exiled omega thing?Reallyhot.”
He’d somehow managed to insult me and gross me out at the same time. With a snarl, I wrenched myself away from his hand and spat, “Get awayfromme.”
His eyes went wide insurprise. “What?”
“What the hell is wrong with you?” I snapped. “Ijustmetyou!”
“But…” Colin’s brows furrowed in confusion. “That doesn’t mean anything. Fated matesknowwhen they meet each other. It’sinstantaneous.”
My stomach turned to lead and dropped at the mention offatedmates.
