“But why me?” I asked. “There are so many other omegas here, better omegas than me… What’s specialaboutme?”
Gunner shrugged. “David is confused. There’s likely nothing special about you. Like I said, his pack must be hurting for omegas, so any omega would do. He most likely chose you at random. It’s rather sad, really. I would feel sympathy for David if he wasn’t trying to steal you awayfromme.”
My head was starting to hurt. This was too much to take in all at once. I whimpered as a sharp pain ricocheted through my skull. My hands flew to myforehead.
“This must be a lot for your brain to handle,” Gunner said kindly. “Omegas do have smaller brains, after all. It’s just a fact ofbiology.”
I nodded. That mustbeit.
“I’ll leave you alone. Remember, Niko.” Gunner lifted my chin, forcing me to look at him. “Everything David tells you will be a lie. Don’tbelievehim.”
“I won’t,” I whispered. Even just speaking was torture on my now poundingheadache.
“Good omega.” He gave me a hard pat on the back, thenleft.
I laid down on my bed, groaning and whimpering in sudden pain. My mind was a storm of confusion and frustration and agony. Who was this strange alpha pretending to be my mate? And why did he want to steal me away? I couldn’t understand any of it. I wasn’t worth all of hiseffort.
Even though he was an evil, strange man, I couldn’t help thinking he was just wasting his time on me. Abducting me wouldn’t help his pack. I was infertile, afterall.
Thinking about this wasn’t helping my headache at all. I shuddered and grabbed the thin blanket, drawing it over myself as I shut my eyes. Maybe by the time I woke up for our next meal, the pain wouldgoaway…
But all I could think of when I closed my eyes wasDavid.
Who was he? What did he wantfromme?
And why did hewantme?
