Niko sighed. “I wonder how he and Hector aredoing…”
“I don’t know. But I know they’re probably safe, so don’t worry about them,” I reassured. Smirking, I added, “They’re both the type who seem to get into trouble but refusetodie.”
“Hah. Theysureare.”
I leaned down to kiss Niko’s forehead. “Anyway, right now we have something else tofocuson.”
“You’re right.” Niko gazed fondly down at our child, who had fallen asleep during our conversation. We all lowered our voices to avoidwakingher.
“This is the start of our new life together,” Niko continued. “The life we never got to havebefore.”
“Yes. But no more thinking about the past,” I murmured, stroking his hair. “From now on, we’ll only look forward to thefuture.”
Surrounded by our friends and family, I’d never felt more at ease. Niko was back in my life, and we had a brand new daughter to raise, teach and love. Things weren’t perfect, but neither were we. The most important thing now was that whatever challenges we faced, we faced themtogether.
