“Which pack do you belong to?” Gunnerasked.
“Scarlet Ridge,” Ireplied.
Except I knew now that wasalie.
“Who do youbelongto?”
“You, sir.”Anotherlie.
“What is your relation toDavid?”
Again. “He’s trying to steal me fromthispack.”
“Good,” Gunner purred. He made sure my eyes never left the pendulum; but he wasn’t going to get what he wanted this time. Defiance burned inside me like aflame.
“Whatareyou?”
“An omega,”Isaid.
“What good areomegasfor?”
My stomach flipped. “Breeding.”
“What use is an omega who can’t breed -likeyou?”
“Useless.”
To my horror, the words came naturally. Even though I didn’t remember it, this must have happened to me before, probably multiple times. I was angry and upset that I’d been used this way without any memory of it. My defiance grewstronger.
“That’s right,” Gunner said quietly. “You’re a useless, infertile omega. David has no business with you. You belong tomeonly.”
Eyes glued to the pendulum, I listened. I listened to every lie and cruel thing Gunner had to say about me. I listened as this man continued to try and brainwash me even further. Knowing that he had lied to me, and kept me prisoner in a cell for years made my blood boil. He treated me worse than ananimal.
My wolf stirred. It had laid dormant all these years, probably forced into unconsciousness by Gunner, who didn’t want me to fight back. But he was awake now, and defiant. And as my wolf awakened, something else did as well; my feelings forDavid.
My wolf, who had entered that sacred primal relationship with David’s wolf, howled out. We ached for his presence, for his touch. He longed to break free of these bonds, to escape fromGunner.
All in time,I reassuredmyself.
“You are nothing,” Gunner continued. “You are worthless.Sayit.”
I knew what he wanted - a broken, fragile omega who didn’t fight back. To get out of here, I would give him exactly what hewanted.
“I’m nothing. I’m worthless,” Irepeated.
“Good,” he growled. “I like an omega who knows hisplace.”
I forced myself not to wince. I couldn’t believe I’d let him talk to me this way allthistime.
“Who are you loyal to?” he askedsharply.
“You.”
“Who is theenemy?”
I lied. “David.”
“Who dowehate?”
