It was true. His body was back to a normal temperature, and seeing that he was here in a room full of two unmated alphas and neither of them showed an interest in him, it was clear his heat hadpassed.

“But… pregnant?” Wesley saidsoftly.

I could see the gears turning in his head. If he was pregnant, this changed everything. His protective instincts would kick in hard, and it would be nearly impossible for him to go through with his plan the way itstoodnow.

“We can always wait to do this until after you have your baby, if you are pregnant,” Charlie said with an expression of sympathy. “We don’t have torushthis.”

“Charlie’s right,” Mason agreed. “Your family comesfirst.”

But Wesley grew angry. “Ican’twait! If I don’t report back to him soon, he’s going to do something anyway! He might attack Indigo Mountain if I don’t deliver him some kind ofupdate.”

“Then let him come,” Flintgrowled.

“I can’t do that,” Wesley argued. “He won’t come alone. He’ll bring an army. You guys have no idea what he’scapableof.”

“Then it’s even more of a reason for you not to do this by yourself, especially not right now,” Iurgedhim.

Wesley frowned. He was being pulled in two different directions and had no idea what to do. Finally he let out anexasperatedsigh.

“When can I find out if I am actually pregnant, then?” heasked.

“In about a week, we can do a test,”Isaid.

“Fine. Just forget the plan, then,” hemuttered.

“I’m sorry,” I said, squeezing his hand. “I know you wanted to go through with this. We’ll deal with Gunner eventually, don’tworry.”

“I know.” He sighed. “Thanks.”

I hugged him. “Now, I think this meetingisover.”

Everybody said goodbye and slowly filed out. I looked over at Wesley, who still seemed downtrodden. I put an arm around him and kissed his forehead. I know he was upset, but it was better for everyone this way. I just hoped he couldacceptthat.
