Vincent

Idon’t knowwhat possessed me to enter the adoption centre that day. I passed it every day on the way to work without a second thought, but that day something was different. It was like something inside me clicked. Whatever it was, it piqued my curiosity and made me go inside - and what awaited me therechangedme.

There was John, an omega from Red Sky pack I had never met before, sitting there with tears in his eyes. I didn’t know why such a handsome omega would be crying alone in the adoption centre. I couldn’t help but talk to him - and once I did, I never wantedtostop.

John was all I could think about on the way to work. I cursed having to be torn away from him so soon after meeting him, but I had an obligation to my coworkers. I was someone they depended on to get the job done, no matter thecircumstances.

Still… Part of me wished I would have just made up an excuse so I could talk with John a littlelonger.

I reached the bank and headed inside. The employees who knew me waved with friendly smiles, but the customers looked nervous as soon as I walked in. I tried not to notice, but it was hard considering that happened everysingletime.

I knew I was big and intimidating. I knew I looked scary. I just wish I didn’t have to be reminded of it everysingleday.

Staying to the edge of the crowd, I entered the back counter. My friend Markus, a fellow alpha, strode up to me and clapped his hand on myshoulder.

“Sorry we had to call you in so abruptly,” he said, knitting his brows together. “One of our guys felt sick and had togohome.”

“Don’t worry about it,” I said. I took a seat in the leather chair and took out my employee’slanyard.

“Were you just chilling at home?” Markus asked with a grin. “Or playing videogames?”

“Not today, actually,”Isaid.

Markus leaned on the counter. “Oh?Dotell.”

I shrugged but avoided looking at him. “Not much to tell. I was just talking tosomeone.”

“Someone?” He leaned closer with a shit-eatinggrin. “Who?”

“None of your damn business,” I muttered, shoving him awayplayfully.

“You’re my best friend so your business is mybusiness.”

“Is that how itworksnow?”

“Come on, Vincent. Spill before I put you in a headlock in front of all ourcustomers.”

I groaned. “Don’t do that again. Once wasenough.”

“Then tell me who youwerewith.”

A thought occurred to me. I hadn’t even known John existed before I met him today - I had no clue where he lived or worked. He was essentially a mystery to me. Markus was more of a social butterfly than I was - maybe he would know where tofindhim.

“Actually, Iwilltell you, because I could use your help,”Isaid.

Markus’s face lit up. “At your service. Now whoisit?”

“It’s anomega- “

Markus sucked in a gasp. Igroaned.

“Will you shut up and stop making a scene?” Imuttered.

“How can I not make a scene when my best bro isfinallyinterested in omegas?” Markuscried.

I glared at him until he backed off andquieteddown.
