“That’s great! I’ll make sure to invite Stark too so you guys can spend some time together.”
Kyle balked. “Wait, what do you mean?”
Scout didn’t seem to understand. “You’re interested in him, aren’t you? What a better way to get to spend time with him alone than at a private party?”
But Kyle shook his head. “I - I can’t, Scout. He’s already seeing someone.”
Scout’s brow furrowed. “But Kyle, wasn’t it only their first date? Do you even know how they feel about each other?”
Kyle averted his gaze. “They seemed to hit it off pretty well from what I saw,” he mumbled.
But Scout didn’t waver. “I don’t accept that, and you shouldn’t either.” He lowered his voice and stared firmly at Kyle. “I’ve seen the way you look at him, and the way your eyes light up when you talk about him. I’m not letting you lose your chance with Stark just because you’re afraid.”
The hairs on the back of Kyle’s neck rose. A surge of frustration bloomed in his chest. For some reason he wanted to argue with Scout, but he kept himself in check. He didn’t want to make a scene in front of his daughter.
“Fine,” Kyle said.
Instantly Scout’s face lit up. “Excellent! I know you won’t regret it.” He shot Kyle a look. “You better not spend the entire party avoiding him, or I’ll find you.”
“I won’t.”
“Promise.”
Kyle hesitated and Scout narrowed his eyes.
“Kyle.”
“Okay, fine, fine, I promise,” Kyle said. “You know, you’re scary when you look at me like that. I feel bad for Killian.”
Scout just laughed.
