Stark and Kyle both stopped. No one else seemed to notice right away.
“Um,” Kyle said, wide eyed.
“Oh - “ Stark began.
Time stood still as Kyle and Stark both gazed down to where a stream of wetness soaked through Kyle’s pants, and created a tiny puddle on the floor.
Kyle blinked very slowly as he gazed up at his mate. “I think, um - I think my water just broke?”
Stark looked just as startled as he did. “Yes, I think so, too.”
Then the panic hit.
Stark whipped his head around to Killian and Scout, and shouted, “Kyle’s water just broke!”
Scout’s jaw dropped. Killian’s eyes went wide and flashed with thoughts, as if figuring out the best course of action.
“Come on,” Stark said. Kyle squeaked in surprise as he reached his arms underneath Kyle’s legs and lifted him into his arms. “Which way is the nearest hospital?” Stark demanded.
“This way,” Killian said quickly.
The crowd murmured in surprise and confusion as the king transformed into his wolf form and led the way for Stark down the walkway. Stark ran as carefully as he could while holding Kyle, not wanting to jostle his mate around.
“Are you okay?” Stark asked breathlessly, looking down at him.
“I think so,” Kyle said with a lopsided grin. “As okay as I can be in this situation.”
Seeing his mate still had a sense of humour despite the panic, Stark allowed himself to sigh with relief. “Alright.” He quickly kissed Kyle’s forehead. “Let’s go have a baby.”
