“I know.” Stark fidgeted with a pack of sugar on the table. “My family and I both think it’s about time I find an omega and start a family.”
Kyle’s eyes widened. “I see.”
“Yeah. I mean, I’m always busy with work so it’s never really crossed my mind before, but now that it has… it’s all I can think about, honestly.” He let out a small laugh. “Maybe it’s my alpha hormones finally kicking in.”
Across the table Kyle had gone silent.
“Kyle?” Stark asked. “You okay?”
Kyle perked up at the mention of his name. “Of course. Anyway, what did you, um, call me here to talk about? I’m guessing its something about finding a mate…?”
“Oh, right,” Stark said. He put his elbows on the table, leaning forward and lowering his voice as if sharing a secret. “I was wondering… if you have any omega friends who aren’t already taken, could you introduce me to one?”
Kyle sat there, staring. For a moment Stark wasn’t actually sure if he had heard him or not. Then Kyle’s expression broke out into a stiff smile. “Sure thing.”
Stark let out a sigh of relief. “Thanks, Kyle! You’re the best!”
Kyle’s face remained in a tense grin. “No problem, Stark.”
“Do you have someone in mind already? What is he like? Actually, don’t tell me, I want it to be a surprise.” He took a gulp of water. “God, I’m so excited! Thanks so much Kyle, this is the best news I’ve heard in a long time!”
He suddenly shot up from his seat. “How’s tomorrow night? Is that too soon?”
“I dunno, I’ll have to call him and let him know,” Kyle mumbled.
“Aha! So there is someone!” Stark exclaimed. “Crap, okay. I don’t have time to waste. Sorry Kyle, but I should get home and pick out what I’m gonna be wearing tomorrow night!”
He clapped Kyle on the back and dropped a $20 in his hand for the lunch they didn’t end up eating, and ran off in excitement before he had a chance to see the look of disappointment and frustration on Kyle’s face.
