“What was her problem this time?” Kyle asked.

Stark sighed. “Her latest topic of the week. Finding a mate. Omegas. Who I’m dating and who I’m not dating.”

“Oh,” Kyle said, a little more stiffly this time.

“Yeah. I don’t know. I mentioned Chase to heronceand now it’s like he’s all she can think about.” Stark laughed. “Maybe she should be the one to go out with him.”

Stark could hear the smile in Kyle’s voice. “Maybe she should.”

“I mean, no offence to Chase or anything, but I literallyjustmet the guy, you know?” Stark continued. “I don’t want to rush into anything just for her sake. It’s my life, not hers.”

“That’s right,” Kyle said. He paused. “I’m glad you and Chase got along, though. You seemed to like each other from what I saw that night.”

“What do you mean?” Stark asked, suddenly bristling.

“Nothing, it’s just… I guess itwouldbe good for you to find a mate.”

Stark couldn’t believe what he was hearing. It was like his mother had possessed his best friend’s body and was spewing her rhetoric out again from his mouth this time.

He tried to calm himself down. Maybe Kyle was excited for the matchup because it involved two of his friends. But still, Stark couldn’t help the annoyance at basically going through the same conversation twice.

He tried to change the subject. “So, you hear about the party? Killian’s one year crowning anniversary?”

“Yes,” Kyle said slowly. “Are you coming?”

“Yeah, I guess I am,” Stark said. “Killian basically threatened me to go.”

“Oh.” Kyle paused. “Is that the only reason you’re going, then?”

Irritation flared inside Stark again. Why was Kyle acting like this? He wasn’t in the mood for is best friend to get snippy with him.

“You know what,” Stark said suddenly. “I’m actually kind of busy right now. I should go.”

For a moment Stark thought that Kyle might have hung up. The other end was silent until Kyle finally muttered, “Okay. See you at the party.”

Stark turned the phone off. He let it drop to the floor and ignored it for the rest of the day.
