The back door flew open. Killian stood frozen as he watched the scene play out in front of him. The door shattered from the inside as it was run through with a huge beam.
Scout ran out into the cabin den, his face furious and determined. In his arms he carried a huge wooden beam that looked like it had been snapped in half. The guard barely had time to turn around before Scout smashed him in the back of the head with the beam. Killian's mouth fell open as the guard stumbled and collapsed onto the ground.
Killian was standing tall now, too engrossed in the scene to bother hiding. Inside, Scout was breathing heavily, but had a satisfied grin on his face.
Then he noticed someone standing in the window. He shrieked and dropped the wooden beam before realizing who it was.
"Killian!?"
They both darted towards the front door at the same time, colliding against each other as soon as it opened. Immediately Killian took Scout in his arms, embracing him tightly and burying his nose in his mate's neck. He felt Scout's arms squeezing around his torso. After a moment of holding each other they broke apart, both too eager to speak and talking over the other.
"Where were you—"
"How did you—"
"I thought you went back to the—
"I can’t believe you did that when—"
They both stopped, looked at each other and then broke into laughter. Killian took Scout's face in his hands and kissed him before he could speak again. The omega's chest pressed against his own, and he felt the rapid butterfly heartbeat thudding in his ribs.
"I was worried sick," Killian said, quietly. "Don't do anything stupid like that again."
"Which stupid thing?" Scout asked. "Running off and pretending to leave you, or hitting a guard over the head with a hunk of wood?"
"Both."
Scout chuckled and then sighed. "I'm so sorry. I thought it was the only way to save the other omegas… and you. I knew Thistle wouldn't believe me unless I was convincing."
"That makes sense," Killian murmured. "Who’s Thistle?"
Scout pointed over his shoulder. "The guy I just knocked out — who’s gonna be pissed when he comes to, so we better get out of here fast."
"Right."
Killian took Scout firmly by the hand and lead him back the way they came through the woods. Tracking Scout had given him a good understanding of how to escape from Silvercreek territory now, which was the only good thing to come out of this whole situation.
"Tell me what happened," Killian said as they tracked briskly over the trail. "I want to know how badly I need to tear those bastards up if I ever see them again."
"Well, Thistle took me back to that... weird cabin," Scout began.
"I felt a weird atmosphere about it too," Killian growled. "What was that about?"
Scout grimaced. "I'll get to that part in a second."
He sighed. "When I got to the cabin, there was this big scary guy there."
Killian bristled. He already didn't like where this was going.
"His name was Warren," Scout continued. "He was the Silvercreek pack alpha."
Killian stopped in his tracks and looked seriously into Scout's eyes. "He didn't touch you, did he?"
Scout shook his head. "No." He paused, staring at the ground. "But I think he was... planning on it."
Killian snarled. He bared his fangs in anger. "I'll kill that bastard. He was the one who locked you away in that room, wasn't he?"
"Yes." He rubbed his arm. "He asked if I was... used up."
