She blushes, but gives a quick tilt of her chin in understanding.
“In that case, can you open this?” She holds out a package and Cole goes to the kitchen to get the scissors and open up her project.
“I have a few things I need to take care of at work. I’ll grab dinner on my way home. Any requests?” I ask.
Shiloh looks to Cole, who’s fumbling around with getting the plastic open. It’s almost like she doesn’t realize her opinion on what we have to eat at dinner is the most important.
“Oh, me?”
“Yes you,” I say lightheartedly.
Part of me wants to find her ex-pack and choke them all out one by one. How could they make her feel so small, so insignificant? Maybe I should run a background check? I quickly let all those thoughts slip away.
This pack needs to be built on trust. When Shiloh wants to share more, she will. And then I can track them down and make them regret ever making her ever feel unimportant.
“Is there a good Indian spot around here?” she asks.
“Cole will show you the menu. Just text me what you want. Have fun on your projects,” I say, leaning down and kissing her head.
I may or may not rub myself against her hair, marking her even more heavily with my scent.
“Have fun,” I say as I leave the house and get back into my car that smells like the Omega I’m having a very hard time leaving right now.
This morning was good, more than good. Maybe we should plan a trip or something so that we can spend even more time getting to know her. With her cast, the beach is out, so is a winter retreat. Fuck. I’ll think of something.
My phone rings and I press the button to pick up the call, it’s my brother Axel.
“What?” I ask as my younger brother laughs down the line.
“Do you kiss your new little Omega with that rude ass mouth?” he asks and I consider hanging up on him right there.
“What do you want? I’m on my way to the office.”
“Fine, fuck you, I won’t tell you what mom’s planning. Have fun getting surprised with that shit,” he says, but he doesn’t hang up the phone.
I sigh and give in. It’s not that I don’t love my brother, I’d do anything for him, it’s just he can be the biggest pain in the fucking ass. When he didn’t designate as an Alpha, we were all shocked and had to put up with even more of his erratic behavior. He needs to find a pack or else I’m worried he’s going to let all of this eat him up and make even worse decisions than he already has.
“What’s she planning?”
“Some last-minute fundraiser in an attempt to get you to bring your Omega to New York to meet her. I think she’s hoping Claire finds a pack at one of these events.”
“I’m sure she loves that,” I say, smiling.
It was a shock to no one when Claire designated as an Omega. It’s also not a surprise that she hasn’t found a pack yet. While some Omegas may have an issue knowing their worth, my sister is more than aware of hers.
“She hates all these rich pricks just as much as I do,” Axel says.
“What do you mean? You are a rich prick.”
“But they’re separate issues. I’m a prick who happens to be rich. I can’t help it that we all got trust funds.”
“Yeah, and what are you doing with your trust fund currently?”
“Vegas was calling my name,” he replies, and I roll my eyes. “Mom called and said to make sure I was in New York in two weeks. Thought I’d give you the heads up.”
“I appreciate it.”
“So…you’re really settling down?” I swear there’s just a tiny bit of jealousy in that statement, and I never know what to say.
