“You might want to clean yourself up, boyfriend,” she says, turning to leave the room.
I swat her ass as she leaves, and for the first time in a very long time I feel hopeful.
“Can you get my back?”Penny asks while we wait for the owner of the jet ski place to take us out onto the dock.
Gavin and Ben look over at us and it takes every ounce of me to not toss them into the water with rocks in their pockets.
“Yeah,” I reply, rubbing the lotion against her skin.
The plans I have to pay her back after all this torture is the only thing keeping me going.
She turns around putting more lotion on her hands and rubbing on her face, she has a patch on the bridge of her nose and I automatically reach out and rub it in. Her smile is casual and light and I just want it to be like this all the time.
“We only have three available for today. We could get some paddle boards out,” the owner says, and Gavin shakes his head.
“Penny can share with Linc, and Ben and I will take turns,” Gavin says, maybe I should poison him instead.
Penny clears her throat as we get our life jackets on and I get on the jet ski first, holding out a hand so she can get on the back.
Her arms wrap around my waist tightly before we take off.
She laughs behind me during the ride as we zip through the water. Aiden is letting Jessa drive and she surprisingly drives like a maniac.
I slow down and put it in neutral when we’re further out.
“Do you want to drive?”
She shakes her head, just resting it on my shoulder.
“Gavin doesn’t care, you know? I think if anything he’s encouraging it.”
“Can we please not talk about this right now?” she says and I grunt.
“At some point?—”
Penny reaches over cranking the accelerator and I have to grab on quickly and begin steering.
I know I’m being demanding, that I constantly want more. I remind myself that I need to be patient. But I’ve never been the type of man who enjoys waiting.
We eventually finish up jet skiing, my mood feeling shitty and I know I’m not good at hiding it.
We load off at the dock, returning the water sports and Aiden takes Jessa’s hand.
“We’ll see you guys back at the house,” Aiden says, escaping with his girlfriend.
“Are you two going to sneak off and fuck somewhere or do you want to go to the bar with us?” Gavin asks.
Penny gasps next to me and Ben shrugs his shoulders.
“So much for keeping a secret, Gavin,” I shout out to him.
“How you expected me not to tell my twin, the person I share DNA with, the gossip of the century is truly your own fault. God, Mom is going to?—”
I smack Gavin’s chest. “Shut up.”
“Ouch, dick,” he hisses, rubbing his chest.
“So are you all coming or what?” Ben asks, completely unfazed.
