She pulls back, her big blue eyes searching mine.

“I loved my dad, like, I thought he was amazing. But there wasn’t a lot of laughter in my house growing up. I’ve never smiled or laughed as much as I have around you. Never say I don’t need you, you’re my sunshine.”

An odd sensation rolls through me.

“I think that’s the best thing anyone has ever said to me.”

“Makes sense, Maeve is your mother.”

I laugh, and she does too, her eyes twinkling as she plays with the wet hair at my nape.

“You’re my sunshine too, blondie.”

She leans forward and kisses me, and my bad day seems to disappear with the press of her mouth.

“Don’t you want to be able to feel me?” she asks against my lips.

“I feel you right now.”

I accentuate the point by squeezing her ass.

She pouts, and I kiss her soft lips again.

“Go get Lorcán.”

“Really?”

“I can’t deal with your pouting. He agreed to it a long time ago, but I don’t know if he still feels the same.”

“You’re more loved than you know.”

“Am I?”

I grin lazily at her, and she rolls her eyes.

“Bond with me, and maybe you’ll know.”

She pushes me away as I head to the stairs to get my shoes.

“Come here, let me carry you inside.”

I carry her bridal style inside, and immediately, my mother starts complaining as we walk through the back door.

“And who the fuck is going to clean up all this water?”

“Sorry, Maeve,” Elena apologizes on our behalf.

“She’s the only one around here with any fucking manners.”

Elena grins, and my má shoos us away.

“Lorcán!” I scream his name through the house, and Elena winces. “Sorry.”

The man in question comes running down the stairs.

“What? What is it?” He looks at me, holding Elena, and takes a relieved breath. “The fuck, Dec, I thought something was wrong.”

“You ask him,” I tell Elena, putting her on the ground.
