Death’s fingers wrap around my chin, and he lightly squeezes until my gaze meets his.
“Anyone who would stray away from you is a fool,” he says softly.
His thumb is gentle against my skin as he rubs my flesh like I’m precious. The feeling goes right to my cupid head and I wonder if this could possibly be more than a single date. Surely he has to feel this straining connection between us?
“I’ll keep this safe in my realm until you decide otherwise,” he says, trapping the quiver under his cloak.
“Thank you.”
“You’ll have to teleport me into your realm tomorrow,” he changes the subject.
“We can meet here?” I suggest, and he nods his head.
“Is there a dress code?” He smirks, both of us knowing damn well he’s going to show up in his standard cloak.
“You’re perfect how you are,” I tell him, and I mean it honestly and in every way he could imagine.
Death looks at me like I’ve dumbfounded him. I just smile before teleporting away. I do still have a quota to meet by tomorrow, especially if I want to win that award.
“He has a huge vein bulging in his forehead. Apparently, he’s on a manhunt,” Amore says, laughing her ass off. “The big wigs are super pissed he lost a plated quiver and are wondering if he’s fit to lead on this planet. You’re a fucking genius, Love. Truly, this is inspiring.”
I smile to myself, shimmying my boobs so that they’re front and center in the pink glittery dress I’m wearing.
“He hasn’t confronted me about it.”
I shrug in the mirror, looking at Amore’s reflection. It honestly irritates me more that he doubts I could be the one to do this to him. Eros clearly thinks very little of me. Well… he’s in for the shock of his life tonight.
“Your reaper is still coming tonight?”
“Oh, yes. Once I’m done, I’m going to collect him from Earth and bring him to the party.”
“Maybe the vein that’s been pulsing on Eros’ forehead will explode.”
I grin at her in the mirror and waggle my eyebrows; she laughs.
“You’re different without him, you know?” Amore says, the joking nature dropping from her face. “He dulled your shine, but now you’re brighter than ever. You’re going to win that award, roll up with a hot reaper on your arm and show everyone that they’ve underestimated you. I’m proud of you, Love”
I wrap my arms around the tall, pretty cupid and squeeze.
“I love you Amore,” I tell her honestly.
People don’t tell their friends they love them enough; it’s truly a tragedy. She wraps her arms around me and squeezes me just as tight.
“Love you too, Love.”
We part, and she smacks my ass hard.
“Now go get your reaper and show everyone what you’re made of.”
I nod my head, wink at Amore, and teleport back to the hospital.
It’s time to show all these cupids who I really am, a love force not to be reckoned with.
Iwait anxiously and pace nervously outside of a patient’s room at the hospital.
I’m worried that Love changed her mind. That she realized the push back she’ll get for bringing me to the biggest cupid celebration of the year isn’t worth the trouble.
She has to know that I won’t be fully accepted there, that her choices will be judged. Maybe stealing Eros’ most prized possession cured the revenge she wanted out of her system.
