“Don’t fuckin’ call me that. And I’ll see you at dinner tonight,” he responds.
“No, you won’t. Date, remember?”
“Right… see ya round, Lily,” he says.
I watch him light a cigarette and walk back to his bike. When I get to the front steps, I take a risk and turn back to take one last look at him. He’s casually sitting on his bike, watching me, just like I’m watching him. His dark, loose hair is pushed back and a cigarette hangs from the side of his lips. He should be the poster child for bad-boys-you-should-keep-away-from-your daughters. He’s also every temptation I should stay far, far away from.
And I will… I have Axel, and we’ll be coming up with a plan soon. A plan that doesn’t involve my broody yet sweet stepbrother. I groan at myself for even thinking about it and turn, knocking on the door.
Cora is the one to answer, and she wraps me in a hug.
“Hey, Cora.”
“Hey, Lily. Shelby’s running a little behind. Do you want something to drink?”
“Water would be great.”
“You got it,” she replies.
The bangles around her wrist clink as she walks to the kitchen. Cora is the epitome of an awesome biker bitch if I eversaw one. If I needed someone to have my back, Cora is who I’d call. She’s not that much older than me, but she’s a nurturer just as much as she is a badass.
I tuck the money Tate gave me into my purse as I sit patiently in the living room. I love the sweet house. While a lot of the compound is all black, broody, and manly, the sweet house is feminine, clean, and gentle. Currently, four women live here. Shelby, Cora, Tammy, and Kim. Tammy’s been here for God only knows how long. Honestly, I don’t think she even fucks any of the guys anymore. Mostly because I’m not even sure Smiley or Pipes can even get it up still. The thought alone makes me want to gag.
Kim, on the other hand, is new, and I’m not sure if she’s going to last. She seems to really want that ol’ lady title and so far, no bites. It’s only been a few months, but I’m not sure if she’s going to work out or not.
Cora comes back with the glass of water and a smile. I know she’s close to Maverick, a younger Beta. I could definitely see them being in it for the long haul, and I sure hope so.
A woman I’m not familiar with walks down the hall with a smile, her lashes looking immaculate as Shelby gives her a hug and escorts her outside.
She looks a little flustered as she waves me back to her room.
“So sorry, I’m running late today. She had way more lashes than I thought. You can never tell when they have light lashes what you’re going to be in for.”
“You’re totally fine. I’m in no rush.”
“Let me just put a new table cover on really quick,” she says as she takes the sheet off the table bed and replaces it with a new one.
I lie down as Shelby switches on some meditative music from the country station that was playing moments ago. I always let her pick the music during my time because even though wealways start off talking and catching up, it quickly turns into me taking a nap.
“Have you seen your brother around lately?” she asks.
“I was just about to ask you the same thing,” I reply. “I haven’t seen him since the BBQ. He was kind of a dick, actually,” I comment.
“Yeah,” she sighs.
“He isn’t being an asshole to you, is he?” I ask her, wishing I could open my eyes to look at her and see if she’s being honest.
“Nothing like that. I just feel like he’s being distant. Maybe I’m imagining it. He just hasn’t been by for the last couple of days,” she tells me, sounding sad about the fact.
“I’m sure he’s just busy doing club stuff. I haven’t seen Axel around either.”
“You’ve gotta hit that before you’re out of here for good,” she encourages me.
My forehead must crinkle because she straightens it out with her soft fingers. It’s probably pathetic how much I loved to be touched, even by my girlfriends. It gives me so much joy. I love getting cosmetic stuff done as much as possible because it means someone is usually touching my face or playing with my hair.
“What if I want him forever and don’t want to get out of here?” I ask quietly.
“Then we better start scheming, because the Prez and your brother seem pretty dead set on you getting your cute Omega-ass out of here and settling down with a ridiculously wealthy pack,” she warns as she continues working on my lashes. Her ability to work and talk always amazes me.
