“There’s no way she could have known about Leon or Kurt taking me, there’s no way,” she argues adamantly, and I believe her.
I hope for all our sakes that’s the truth. Teresa knowing about all of this shit might just be the thing that breaks Lily completely.
“For the record, we think your mom is innocent. My dad offered her a better life, and she took it. She’s never been one to question much,” I point out.
“So what’s next?”
“We kill my father and take the club back,” I declare.
She doesn’t break, just nods her head. I know horrible things are on the horizon. Although I can’t help but feeling just a sliver of hope that we might all make it through this.
The lake housequickly becomes crowded with Omegas I’ve never met before and members of the Dead Palms who look completely defeated.
I don’t really like that all of these Omega scents are coating the inside of this house, but I’m shoving that feeling down.
Now is not the time to start throwing shit out of a window and having a fit. I cringe when that pleasant little flashback hits me. But I still have the mental reminder to figure out whose fucking name is branded on my bond.
I shake my head as Mickey walks in. He looks like complete shit.
He’s big, nearly as big as Cash, but he doesn’t hold the same overwhelming Alpha presence he usually does. His beard looksworse for wear and there are deep purple bags under his brown eyes.
I don’t think as I approach him and wrap my arms around him. He stiffens but eventually returns the hug.
“I’m so sorry, Mick,” I sigh softly.
“I am too,” he replies sadly.
Picturing him and my brother together didn’t make much sense. Two big-ass dudes with larger-than-life personalities. But as I pull away from the hug and look into Mickey’s watery eyes, I see it. He really loved Leon, even if my brother didn’t completely feel the same way.
“You holdin’ up okay?” he asks as I pull away, wrapping my arms around myself.
I shrug, asking, “You?”
“I’m glad I’ve had somethin’ to keep me busy,” he answers while looking around the house.
Clearly, some of the Omegas are still frightened, but no doubt more so about the Wraiths coming back to get them instead of their current situation.
“Thanks for helping them get out.”
“It was the right thing to do.”
“Do you know where Shelby is?” I ask him.
“Fuck if I know,” he replies, all the softness leaving his face as he walks away from me.
I exhale and chastise myself. Clearly, there’s a sore spot there, and I make a mental note not to bring it up again.
I feel Cash through the bond before I feel him wrapping his arms around me. “We’re having a club meeting and making some plans. We’ll be back in a bit,” he states.
There’s an annoying prickle in my stomach that doesn’t like the idea of them being away from me, but I nod regardless.
“We won’t be long,” he repeats, nodding towards the kitchen window. “Shelby’s out on the dock.”
“I’m going to go check on her.”
“Stay close, understand?” is his response.
I nod, and Cash kisses the side of my head before he leaves towards the front yard with the rest of the club. The Omegas in the room seem to calm down as soon as they all leave, and I guess I don’t blame them.
