“Sit!” His voice rumbles and shakes the containers. He tilts his head at the angel to the left of me. He’s able to walk in the Devil’s trap with no issue and grabs my arm.

I don’t even think before I act, grabbing the knife from the cuff of my jeans and slicing off his ear completely. The cartilage falling to the floor has him hissing in pain. I know he’ll heal quickly, but he really is hamming up the pain as he cries like a little bitch.

The other angel grips my arms. And unfortunately, the neanderthal is twice my size, meaning he’s way stronger than me, and easily ties me to the chair. He’s rough, and the ropes are tight, but not in a fun way.

“Are you done?” Rita asks in a condescending tone.

I just stare at them and blink, keeping my mouth shut, and running through all my options.I can’t portal in this fucking trap. I haven’t talked to Kas in a few weeks; plus, she has no idea where I am. Lucifer…the necklace. I need to get my hand around it and call his name.

Fuck.

Why didn’t I do that as soon as I was thrown into the trap?Probably because I haven’t worn it in such a long time. I forgot what it could do, how much protection it could offer me. I need to get my hand free.

“We need some specifics about Lucifer’s Manor.”

“Mmm… it’s big.”

“I told you this was pointless, you should just kill her.Hegave us enough information.” My head tilts at the mention of a he.

A traitor?I can’t help the first name I think of—Beelzebub. I’m so going to kill that rat-bastard.

“He hasn’t been in Lucifer’s private quarters. We don’t know what we’re getting into.”

“Yeah, you wouldn’t want to run into the hellhounds,” I lie. I haven’t seen any true creatures in Hell, but they don’t know that.

Rita blinks a few times and tilts her head. “The hellhounds?”

“Seriously, your little rat didn’t tell you about them? Perhaps he’s not as good of an informant as you thought. I’m sure he didn’t tell you about the warded rivers either.”Just keep coming up with dumb things for them to worry about. If I can keep them talking just a bit longer, maybe I can rid myself of my bindings and call in some reinforcements.

“She’s lying,” Ezekiel accuses. I can read the frustration on his face as he steps up to me and smacks me across the face. The smack is so audible in the confined shipping container, it makes my ears ring, and I taste the tang of metallic blood in my mouth.

When I straighten my face, some of my hair falling loosely around my face. I’m sure I look insane as I give Ezekiel a bloody smile, and spit some of my blood onto his cheek. He wipes off my tainted blood from his face and smacks me again. The chair nearly falls over when he hits me, and I know I need to push every button I can.

“Let us end this, brother,” Rita pleads. Her tone is bored and bitchy, but I see the rage and anger written on Ezekiel’s face. He still has a few specks of blood on his chin, and it makes me smile. I need to make him as angry as possible. Best case scenario is him knocking this chair over. Ineedto get to the necklace.

“Knife,” Ezekiel demands, holding out his hand to one of his minions. They hand him my blade, and I grin at him again. At least my blade won’t kill me.

“Oooh, fun. Do you like knives as much as I do? I didn’t think a top angel would love violence so much. What does your God think about that?” I taunt him, not showing any fear.

“Shut up!”

He slices across my arm, making the bindings loosen just the tiniest bit. I’m hoping, with my strength, I might be able to break the binds. The slice fucking burns, and I watch as my skin starts to slowly knit itself together. It’s taking longer than usual, and I start to worry about how much time I have.

“Is it frustrating being so self-righteous? Tell me, does mommy let you out of your cage often?”

That infuriates him, and he starts hitting me so hard that I nearly black out. I don’t give in but stay awake as his fists hit different parts of my body. A ridiculously hard hit to the chest has me falling, and the chair breaks in the process as I land hard on my side.

I laugh maniacally as Ezekiel pants, my blood decorating his fists. My body aches in a way I’ve never felt before, but as I watch his eyes widen, I can’t help but laugh even harder.

“Oh, you’re going to pay,” I warn him, and he scoffs. Rita doesn’t look shocked at the beating I just received from an angel, but she does look irritated that this is taking so long.

“Can we please wrap this up?”

“Leave if you’re so impatient.” She rolls her eyes and presses her hip against the metal wall.

I’m weakened with my body trying to heal multiple injuries at once. I’m bleeding in multiple places, but I do my best to shimmy.

“Give me the Hell blade,” he requests, and Rita finally smiles. I’m using all my strength but I have no idea what the fuck these binds are made of. I’m worried about the capabilities of the blade he’s switching to and if this could be the end. The end before I ever truly let myself live. My mortal existence and my afterlife have been dedicated to Diana. Out of fear and vengeance, I’ve forgotten to live, and I might truly pay the ultimate price.
