I leave the bedroom and wander down the hallway to find Lilith. She’s sitting at a desk, manually looking over different forms.
“Lilith?”
“Hey, Dax. Is there something you need?”
“I need to communicate with Kas or Asmo. Do we have a tele-portal I can use?”
“Of course, follow me.”
Her heels click along the wooden floor as she walks me down to a smaller room, a demon in his true form stands before the tele-portal.
“Lilith,” he says, lowering his head.
“Dax needs to make a call.”
The demon moves to the side, and I place my hand on the communication portal. It’s like looking through a wishing well. Seeing what you want in a reflection, the picture isn’t clear but it’s just clear enough.
I see Asmo’s face. He looks like he’s in the middle of something exerting.
“Asmo?” I say.
“You really do have shit timing, Dax. What do you want and where did you find a tele-portal?”
“I’m in Hell with Blair—the Mara situation has been resolved. I need you and Kas to find Stevie and make sure she’s okay.”
“Stevie’s in trouble?” I hear Kas say, though I can’t see her.
“This witch is a pain in my ass. We’ll go check on her,” Asmo says.
“Thank you.” I watch as his eyes widen over my effort to show gratitude. I nod my head at the demon and leave the room with Lilith.
“Thank you as well, Lilith.”
“Of course, you know, I’ve kind of been waiting for this day. Lucifer visited her on her birthday, always. It was his favorite day of the whole year. But seeing her more often than that was hard on him. So he would send me out to keep tabs on her. Blair has a special place in my heart.”
“In mine too,” I say.
“Wishing you all the luck in the world explaining that to him,” she says.
“Thanks,” I say.
She pats me on the back. “He’ll come around.”
We part ways in the hallway and I re-enter the bedroom. I watch as Blair sleeps and I know what I need to do. I can’t help myself, I need to make sure that she’s having sound dreams and that today’s events aren’t haunting her in her sleep.
Chapter 31
Iwakewithastart, my heart racing and my breathing heavy. Blinking open my eyes, I look to my left and see Dax looking at me with concern as he cups my cheek.
“Were you in my dream?”
“I was,” he says. I groan and push my face further into the pillow.
“I want to go home,” I say.
“I know, babe, but I think you need to talk to your dad first.”
“Are you saying that as my boyfriend or someone who works for him?” I ask sharply.
