“Why doesn’t Blair know who you are?” she asks.

“Is she telling you that?” he asks her.

“Yes,” Mara replies.

“I thought it would be easier for her to live her life as a witch. As hard as I tried, and thought that creating demons on earth was the motivation, it’s become transparent that I have more feelings than I considered.”

“You love her?” she asks.

“I love both of you, and I would like to make things right,” he says.

“How… how are you going to give me a corporeal body? What will it look like?” she asks.

“I need your soul to collect the blood in the basin, and I’ll be able to create your body. I read the soul to see what body would best suit you.”

“And Blair?” she asks.

“As long as you leave Blair’s body gently, she should be fine. She was born, not created in this way, so you need to be careful.”

“I really never wanted to hurt her.” She sniffles.

“I know, darling. Please let me make things right.”

“Okay,” Mara replies. We both watch the most gentle de-possession we’ve ever watched taking place. Mara slips out of Blair’s body like a slow tendril of cigarette smoke. I’m behind her in a flash as I hold her limp body once Mara completely ejects herself.

Blair is breathing, and I keep my fingers on her pulse. Lucifer looks at me, and I nod while he handles Mara’s transformation. While I’ve had my own transformation, it’s another thing to watch it.

The blood levitates, each blood cell acting as a puzzle piece as it floats in the air and circles Mara’s soul. It starts as a clump of blood, but it slowly shifts into a human female. Lucifer’s eyes are closed as he concentrates on creating her form. She takes her shape, taller and leaner than Blair. Her hair forms, the same color as her father and sister, but longer and straight. Her naked form is on display as she collapses to the floor in her new body. Lucifer quickly grabs a throw blanket and wraps it around her as she shivers. She holds her hand out in front of her face and inspects her new hands.

“I’m a person again,” she says, a beaming smile on her face.

“As it should have been. I can’t apologize enough, darling. I promise to spend all my energy in making things right with you and your sister.”

She nods her head. “I think I owe Blair an apology,” she says, and I scoff.

Blair’s body shifts in my grip, her eyes blinking quickly as her hand grazes my jaw, her eyes purple as she looks up at me. “Dax?”

“I’m here, babe. You’re going to be okay.”

“I’m going to fucking kill her,” she says. She attempts to get up, but I hold her against me.

“Well, I think parricide needs to be the line. Let’s not add sororicide.”

“Yes, I think not,” Lucifer says to Blair, and she glares at him. I’ve never seen anyone give him a look like this. Not to mention the slight shiver I see in Lucifer as he watches her.

“Dax and I need a moment. Should we portal home, or is there somewhere for us to lie down here?”

“Of course, I have your rooms ready. Lilith?” he says her name, and she portals into the room, arms crossed over her body. “Love, can you show the girls their room?”

“Now that I’m allowed to be a part of the conversation, I would love to. Please follow me.” She gives Lucifer a shitty look, and the man can’t catch a break from the women in his life today. I watch as he sits on his bed, hands on his forehead and elbows on his knees. Never would I have imagined the devil himself having so many vulnerabilities.

I take Blair’s hand in mine. She flinches at the touch but holds my hand. I stand between her and Mara as Lilith directs Mara to the first room.

“Mara, this is your room. If you need anything, please just let me know,” she says.

“You’re really pretty and nice. Are you my… um.. stepmother?”

“Heavens no, but we can talk more later,” Lilith says, showing Mara her room as Blair and I stand in the hallway. Lucifer’s estate screams luxury and affluence. Lilith gives us a tight smile as she directs us a few doors down.
