“I choose your missions, not some handler. That way, I can see you often.”

“That works for me,” I say. I look at Dax, and he doesn’t look as happy about this revelation, but he smiles at his lord.

We finish our meal with gentle conversation. Things are nowhere near as awkward as they were last time. Mara is pretty quiet, and I can’t help myself when I give her a casual smile. I might not forget about her possessing me, but I can try to forgive. She smiles back and I watch her relax.

My father dabs the side of his lips with his napkin and slides his chair back. “Very well, Blair and Dax. Shall we go to my study to discuss your first assignment together?”

I beam at him and slide out of my chair, eager to see what our first job will be. Dax takes my hand as we follow my dad to the study.

He opens the door, and we enter, Dax shutting it behind us.

My dad hands Dax a file. “This is the kraken realm. There are a few demons who keep setting shit on fire, killing people. Without a food source, the krakens are becoming volatile. None of these demons are corporeal. You should be able to exorcise them or stab them with that handy dandy knife you have, Dax.”

Dax nods his head. “You don’t think this is too much?” he asks.

“She’s the daughter of the devil, and most of these demons are low tier. Should be in and out.” Dax nods his head again.

“After your mission is complete, come back for the next.”

Dax hands me the file. “Dax, can you give my dad and me a minute?”

“Sure,” he says, squeezing my hand.

“Thank you for trusting me with an actual mission.”

My dad hugs me, and it brings me back to all my birthdays. I feel his love for me in his hug.

“Of course. Is there something else, Blair?”

We separate from our hug.

“If a soul were to, I don’t know, end up in Hell. And I really wanted this soul to have a corporeal body. Is that something you would do for me?”

My father grins at me. “Better yet, darling. I’ll teach you how to do it myself.”

“Oh, and can my familiar stay here when Dax and I are on missions?”

“Of course, darling.”

I hug him again. The hug is tight and warm. “Thanks, Dad.”

“Always, my dearest Blair.”

He sits at his desk, and I leave the office, taking Dax’s hand in mine. “Everything all right?” he asks.

“It will be,” I reply.

“The kraken realm is no joke. You sure you’re up for this?”

“Absolutely,” I reply. He smiles as he portals us to a dimension and it’s the start of an adventure I could have never imagined, even in my wildest dreams. No matter what color gray each day brings or what universe we’re in, we will always be at each other’s side.

Chapter 36

Epilogue

A few decades later….

Asmuchasthiswater dimension makes me itch, I don’t mind the view of Blair in a bikini. She doesn’t tan; she spells her skin to stay perfectly pale as it is. Her snake basks in the sun next to her—hopefully he can chill in Hell for a while on this next mission. He takes up too much of my witch’s time.
