“It’s a small apartment, nothing like Lucifer’s house.”
I place my palm against his jaw, and his skin warms mine. The light stubble makes me smile. “Anywhere with you is perfect.”
He grins at me, my favorite dimples on display. “Then let’s get out of here,” he says.
Dax’s grip is tight on my waist as he has me stand, his arm wrapping around me as he portals us to his apartment.
Apartments in Hell are, well, Hell. He portals us right next to the window, it’s a studio. With a bed, kitchenette, and a room for a bathroom. There appears to be some sort of public railway system right outside the window. The noise outside is what I would imagine New York is like during New Years.
Dax scratches the back of his neck. “I don’t really spend much time here.” I can sense how uncomfortable he is. I place a reassuring arm on his forearm.
“It’s just a place to sleep,” I remind him.
“Are you sure you wouldn’t rather go to Lucifer’s?”
“I still am a witch, you know?” I remind him, raising an eyebrow. “Silentium,” I whisper, shutting out all the outside noise. Though the apartment isn’t the best, at least it’s quiet. Dax shyly smiles at me while he goes to the bed. We’re both still stark naked from the club. Something I have found is that the man loves to sleep naked. He loves for me to sleep naked too, something about easy access.
I can’t deny that I enjoy it when I wake up with him on top of me, knowing that he always wants me. I know it’s part of his incubus nature, but it’s only for me. Dax doesn’t crave anyone else like the way he craves me. Especially with my demon nature fully awakened. It’s like he can’t get enough.
It’s clear that Dax isn’t fully comfortable here. He was more comfortable in Hallowsdeep, but still never fully relaxed.
Dax lies down, pulling back the beige suede looking blanket for me to crawl in. His arm was already waiting for me to cuddle. I smile and shift into the bed. It’s not very comfortable, but no way am I going to ask to go to the palace at this point.
My face is pressed against his beautiful chest, and my fingertips draw patterns against his muscular frame.
“Dax?”
“Yeah, babe?”
“You don’t want to stay in Hallowsdeep, do you?”
“I want to be wherever you want to be.”
“Dax, I can tell you don’t enjoy staying there.”
His body shifts so he can look me in the eye. Probably trying to gauge my emotions from my eye color. I’ve completely dropped the glamour unless we are around humans.
“Blair, I could spend the rest of my life in that town and be fine. As long as you’re with me.”
I perch myself up on my elbow to look at him.
“I think I’d like to go on some jobs with you, experience the universes with you.”
He smiles. “You would like that?”
“As long as I can see Stevie often, yeah, I would like that.”
He nods his head. “About Stevie,” he says.
“I don’t want to think about it right now,” I say, lying back down to cuddle into his chest.
“All right, well, tomorrow we can talk to Lucifer and get our first assignment.”
I smile against his skin, and he gently kisses my hair.
The water pressure and temperature in Dax’s apartment is shit. I guess people who find themselves in Hell shouldn’t be living a life of luxury, but damn. Can’t a demon get semi-decent hot water? Both of us shower and dress quickly before I attempt to portal us to my dad’s house.
I’m standing next to Dax, our fingers interlaced, as I take a few deep breaths. “Just picture a room in the palace and will us to go there.”
