She sniffles on the other side. “I miss you.”
“I miss you too. Have you heard anything?”
“Dean’s dad is pushing for a bail hearing tomorrow. Garth is pressing charges, but I’m pressing charges against him as well. It’s a mess.”
“I wish I could be there with you.”
“Me too. Are you staying safe?”
“Yeah, I made friends with a guy who set a pack on fire, so there’s that.”
“Smith!” she shouts my name through the phone, and I realize that probably wasn’t the best thing to say.
“He’s a pretty nice guy, though.”
“He set people on fire,” she says, irritated.
“They hurt his sister,” I tell her.
“I swear you’re going to make me age prematurely with all the stress.”
“Tell everyone thank you for taking care of you when I couldn’t, yeah?”
“Smith,” she says.
“Just thank them for me, Cami, please?”
“Okay, but I’m fine. Everything is fine.”
“Baby, I can feel everything down the bond. I know you’re not fine. Especially at night.”
“Ugh, can you just, like, turn it off or something? I’m fine, don’t worry about me. Just worry about coming back home, okay?”
I roll my eyes, but don’t talk back as I slouch on the stool I’m sitting on. “Hopefully, I’ll see you tomorrow?”
“If I don’t get you out on bond, you better mentally prepare yourself for a real bond visit, ’cause I need you.” I exhale and shift my dick in my sweatpants.
“You can’t say shit like that,” I tell her.
She laughs. “I can honestly feel you being turned on through the bond. This part is fun.”
A robotic voice chimes in over the line. “This call will end in one minute.”
“I love you,” I tell her.
“I love you too. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Chapter 26
Hejusthadtobring up the fact that he knows I’m crying at night, didn’t he?
I place my phone on the nightstand and put on his hoodie before I crawl into bed. The door handle clicks and the bed dips. A gentle hand rubs my arm.
“It’s going to be okay, honey,” my mom coos at me.
“He sounds so sad,” I say.
“Well, he’s in jail,” she says deadpan.
