“Yeah, how did you know?”
“They only have so many doctors they will refer you to. He’s old, but he’s nice. He just replaced my IUD, that was a fun experience,” she says, grimacing. Smith stiffens and looks uncomfortable, and Grayson just rolls his eyes and scratches his beard. There’s no controlling this woman.
“Already have one of those, so I’m all set,” I say to Liv, but more for Smith’s benefit. Liv gives me a little smile. I’ll need to text her later to give her a complete update of what happened after her security alarm stunt.
We continue breakfast talking about little things. Dean is far chattier than I thought he would be. He talks about his restaurants and how proud of Liv he is. It’s sweet, and I make sure to push my jealousy deep down into its little box where it belongs.
After we’re finished, Liv and her pack collect all their kitchenware and head to the entrance of the apartment. Liv wraps her arms around me and I hug her tightly. She whispers in my ear. “Oh, babe, I see the cracks forming already.” Then she speaks louder so everyone can hear. “I’ll text you later. We will get together after your heat, okay?”
“For sure. I had so much fun, Liv. Thank you again for everything.”
“What are best friends for?” she says, and I will not cry. I just give her another hug. I haven’t had a real best friend since I became famous. Liv likes me as Cami, and I’m never letting her go. We hug for a bit while longer until it gets a little weird for everyone around us.
With a small smile she leaves, and it’s just Kelsey, Smith, and myself in the apartment.
Kelsey looks down at her phone. “My ride should be here soon.”
“Who drove you?” Smith asks her.
“Just a friend. It’s not a big deal,” she says, and he doesn’t look impressed with her answer.
“I’m going to take a shower before your appointment,” he says, looking at me. “Don’t leave without saying goodbye so I can meet your driver,” he says to Kelsey. She rolls her eyes and goes to sit on the couch.
Once Smith is in the shower, I look over at her. “You sneaky sneak. You weren’t asleep during the alarm,” I accuse her.
“Of course not. Liv and I plotted the whole thing. It worked,” she says with smugness.
“We had a good conversation last night. I just need him to open up more. I just really hope my heat doesn’t ruin everything.”
“He will figure it out,” she says. I’m so over talking about my problems.
“So, who is picking you up?”
She smirks. “His name is Emmett,” she replies.
“How revealing of you.”
“He’s a Beta with beautiful blonde hair, a perfect cock, and he lets me boss him around.” She smirks.
“Oh, anything else to add?”
“His Alpha is the most gorgeous and powerful woman I’ve ever met, but it’s so fucking complicated.”
“How so?”
She bites her lip. “She’s my ex’s sister.”
“Oh, fuck.”
“Yeah. Oh fuck is right. You can’t tell Smith. He’s never met Shyla, he will only compare her to Meera. And she’s nothing like her bitch of a sister. She’s intense, but fuck, she makes me feel powerful. You know? Like me, letting her take control is a gift to her. Ugh, her being Meera’s sister isn’t even the most complicated part.”
“This is a lot,” I tell her. I have a headache trying to remember all of these people, and she mentioned the other night that it was two couples coming together. So how many people is she keeping track of?
“You’re telling me. I just want it all to be simple. But nope, apparently simple isn’t my forte.”
“Well, you’re welcome here anytime you need an escape.”
She smiles and nods her head. “Thanks, Cami. I had so much fun last night. I haven’t had such a carefree night in so long.”
