“Sorry,” she says, stepping ahead of me and walking to the car.
We’re silent as Cami scoots into the backseat, and I close the door and slide into the passenger’s seat. Franklin looks at me like I’ve grown five heads and when I look in the rearview mirror, Cami seems disappointed.
I don’t let her little pout bother me as I put the buckle on and lean my head against the headrest. Sitting in the backseat with her smelling like that, I would have mauled her. I think I really mucked everything up with this scent marking idea. All I feel when I sense her with my scent is an overwhelming feeling ofmine.
I’m so fucked.
Thankfully, after she showered, Cami didn’t smell like we just fucked each other, and I holstered a stronger grip over my control.
We’re eating dinner, even though it’s late, around two in the morning.
She’s tapping away on her laptop when her phone dings, and she smiles.
“Who’s that?” I ask, not jealous at all that someone can so easily make her smile.
“Liv, she went and looked at that apartment for me. Apparently, they own the penthouse in the building. I’m sending in the contract tomorrow.”
“I hadn’t realized you two were messaging.”
“I’m not sure who is more obsessed with who, to be honest. She’s amazing. We have plans to hang out as soon as we get settled. I could really use a friend.”
I nod my head. “I know you have a lot going on, but my sister Kelsey would like to visit us in New York at some point as well.”
She smiles as she spears her pasta with her fork. “I’d love to meet your sister. She’s an unbonded Omega too?”
I clear my throat. “Yeah, her recent breakup was not good. I stayed home with her for a few weeks while she got back on her feet.”
Cami nods her head as she thinks of her reply. “Maybe it could be a whole girls’ Omega weekend. Set it up.”
I rub the back of my neck. “I’m not sure if—”
“Set it up,” she says, not allowing me to finish my sentence—of how horrible an idea this is going to be or how I don’t want to be responsible for the safety of three Omegas. I’m about to say just that when she speaks again. “I could really use some friends right now, and the fact that they are both Omegas helps me even more.”
“You sure you all won’t bite each other’s heads off?”
She holds up one finger. “Number one, Liv is bonded, so as long as we don’t touch her Alphas, she’s fine. Number two, you’re Kelsey’s brother, so there’s no issues there. Number three, I desperately need girlfriends, and not all female Omegas are ready to claw each other’s eyes out. Very sexist way of thinking, Mr. Smith.”
Properly chastised, I keep my mouth closed. What did she mean about Kelsey being my sister and that meaning there will be no issues?
“By the way, I think now that I’m wearing your scent, you owe me your real first name.”
“No way,” I reply.
“It really can’t be that bad.”
“It is to me,” I tell her. I just hate it, and I really don’t want her to see me as anybody other than Smith.
“Fine, well then. How about another interesting Smith fact, instead? Any deep, dark secrets? Anything embarrassing?”
“I’m not sure why I owe you a deep, dark secret,” I tell her.
“Well, you pretty much know all of mine,” she says, rubbing her arm.
“Are you cold?” She nods her head, and I take off my sweatshirt and I pull it over her head. My fingers ‘accidentally’ graze the side of her neck causing us to visibly shiver. She smiles and sniffs the collar when she puts it on. “Fine, only because I saw you throw up, and you called meShrek.”
“Yes,” she whispers.
“I lost my virginity to my math teacher.”
