The Fate took a deep breath. “Thank fuck.”

Severo winced as Seri gasped, “Language!”

“What?” Cyrus asked, sounding confused.

“Uhh…Boss, you are on speaker, and there are little ears in listening distance. Please don’t get me beat up.”

“Ah…sorry… Seri?”

Seri licked his lips and softly said, “Yes.”

“The threads are spinning, but will straighten out in the end,” Cyrus said vaguely, before stating, “You three are somewhere safe.”

Seri’s brow pinched, saying nothing.

“We are,” Severo replied. “Just checking in.”

“Let me guess, Ender had something to do with it.”

“I will neither confirm nor deny. All I can say is I will be digging as you all dig, and Killian should expect to be sent information randomly over a secure line of my choosing.”

“Right. Well, we found your rental. Destroyed, by the way. We stopped the other authorities from listing you as missing, and/or possibly dead. Oh, by the way, what is missing is all of Seri’s digital case files. As for Leal Craft, it’s like the man never existed.”

Seri grimaced.

Severo sighed. “Yeah, we figured that would happen.”

“Well, we will keep digging. Stay safe, I’ll be in touch. Oh, think of something you want me to tell your parents the next time we talk, because when they call me frantically asking why you aren’t answering… if I’m going to lie to them, it’s going to be your lie not mine. Bye.”

Severo blanched and was about to respond to that when the bastard hung up. “Oh…OHHH. I forgot!”

His parents hadn’t even crossed his mind. They’d eventually start to panic more with each call he did not answer. Which, at the moment, he couldn’t. Because he’d destroyed his old phone… Double fuck, he was going to be in major trouble the next time he saw them.

Seri couldn’t sayhe wasn’t curious about Severo parents, even more so with the expression currently on Severo’s face. “Your parents? Will they worry if they don’t hear from you?”

He almost rolled his eyes at his own question. Duh—of course they would worry. They were Severo’s parents! Unless they had a falling out, wasn’t it normal for parents to worry?Way to remind Severo you don’t have any with that question, Seri, he thought with a sigh.

Severo’s seemed to pale further. “They usually call me once a week. Worry is an understatement, if I don’t answer. And since they can’t get through to me, the next best option is Cyrus.”

Seri blinked… Once a week? Wasn’t that too much? “Why would…they call your boss?”

The Dweller sighed. “Cyrus is…well, our families are friends. So, he’s a childhood friend, to be exact. And before you ask, no, I get absolutely no benefits from being friends with my boss.”

“Ah…so what are you going to tell them?”

“I’m going to have Cyrus lie his a—mm—BUTT off, and then be on my merry way.”

His head tilted. “Why not tell them the truth?”

Would they not find out eventually? Maybe? Then again, maybe not… It would put them in danger if they knew, so best that they didn’t.

“Because they are busybodies, and would step right into the middle of things.”

Seri frowned. “They would…what? Surely you are joking…”

“I wish I was joking. On my very first bounty hunting case, they literally hand delivered the guy to my door! The embarrassment I faced!” Severo said with a groan.

Seri choked. “They…delivered some guy to your door? Also…I didn’t realize Cryptids got bounties.”
