“Food…?” Seri slowly asked, at the same time he set the car seat down near the couch.
“The food…Ender’s group sent. It arrived?”
“Right…and we are going…somewhere?”
Severo’s brow rose. “Shopping…for clothes…and other essentials. Possibly some baby stuff… You didn’t hear a single word I said when you opened your door thirty minutes ago.”
The Nymph’s nose wrinkled as he maneuvered Skya down into the seat and set the baby bag on the counter. “I heard you fine… I was just confirming.”
He snorted. “Sure…”
Seri began to rummage in the baby bag, before pulling out a bottle and a container of formula…or was it milk. He eyed the can. Ah, powdered breast milk.
When the Nymph started to prepare the bottle, he stated, “Not going to explain?” with some confusion of his own.
Seri froze to stare, a scoop full of powdered milk in his hand. “Show you?”
“Wow…you really aren’t all there when you first wake up, are you?”
Seri’s face pinched. “You know what…just shhh, and let me make her bottle.”
Severo held his hands up in defeat.
He sat there quietly watching Seri finish the bottle. Interestingly enough, instead of getting water from the tap, the man pulled it from the air. The blue mist that had almost killed him many days ago, seemed to gather droplets quickly. Water accumulated into glowing light cyan wobbling balls of liquid, that Seri siphoned into the bottle. He really wanted to ask if that was faster than just filling it up with tap water, but figured Seri wouldn’t appreciate the question at the moment.
Severo’s head tilted when the Nymph pressed a button on the side of the bottle, and stood there staring blankly until there was a beep. He guessed that meant it was done, as Seri handed it to Skya then. The little Nymphant grabbed it and started chugging away. Holding it up on her own.
“She’s strong for one so young.”
“Normal development for a Nymph,” Seri grunted.
“You usually help her hold it.”
The man sighed. “Why are you trying to make me think?”
Severo bit his lip to stop the laugh that was trying to bubble up. “Sorry. My bad.”
“Food,” Seri mumbled, looking around.
“Counter.” He pointed behind him.
The Nymph nodded.
He let the man gather some food and eat in silence, as Seri didn’t really seem up to conversation. The man sort of reminded him of his oldest sister. Lucia definitely did not function in the morning.
A good thirty minutes later, when Seri finished the last bite of his eggs, Severo asked, “Ready to test our faces?”
The Nymph frowned. “Test…”
“The disguises. So Skya won’t be afraid again. We have a bit of shopping to do.”
“Why…don’t we just do it online?”
“We can do that for some things later, but I don’t think we can wait on clothes and diapers.”
“Same day delivery.”
“I mis-spoke. It’s more we can’t risk the exposure that deliveries would bring us. Drone delivery systems take constant video, as do the people deliverers. And we’d likely have to sign for some things. The less we interact with others, the less we are seen, the better. We can do more deliveries when our P.O. Box is set up.”
