Well one, he was going to personally find out who the hell Seri had talked to, and kick the crap out of them for daring to do such a thing to a fucking teenager.

The rest… Sure, they were taking him back because of the warrant, and the case, but it would be a lie to say that was the only reason. They wanted the information he had. Fuck—this sucked.

“What?” Seri let out a bitter laugh. “Nothing to say?”

“Seri, I…” He trailed off when the front console began to vibrate, a call coming in to his phone. A holographic button floated up, asking him if he wanted to accept the call or not. He stared at the number…he had no clue who it was. No caller ID came up, which was…questionable, but still he hit the accept button. Pressing no when the caller requested video feed.

“Agent Ambrose, it’s Detective Liane. I hope you aren’t feeling negatively towards me after our first encounter.”

Seri flinched as the man’s voice rang out. Severo’s head tilted when, beyond comprehension, the Nymph grew paler than he already was. The man must have recognized the voice…or the name… One or the other. The meaning was the same though. Seri obviously knew Detective Liane

Severo, gaze still on Seri, said, “I don’t have time for platitude, Detective. What is this call pertaining to?”

Liane cleared his throat. “Well, we became aware that you’re intending to house the criminal with you, and we're hoping to convince you otherwise. Really, it’s only logical that the creature be brought to us, or at least to the nearest CEB to us. We are the investigative team.”

Severo scoffed. “I don’t give a rat’s…” He hesitated, gaze flicking over to Skya before continuing. “...behind what you or your people want. I’ll be doing what I want. Because not only do your opinions and wants not matter to me in the least, I have every legal right to do whatever the heck I want. Oh, and I suggest you find whatever dog dared to leak this information to you before I do, because when I do, I will be taking you down with them.”

“W-what—” The man started to bluster, but Severo pressed the end call button, not caring what he wanted to say.

“See! They are in on it!” Seri cried.

“I already knew that station was full of crooks. This tells me nothing new.”

“It tells you that someone in the CEB is working for Preston! Isn’t that enough?”

“Seri, enough. I’m not turning around. I’m not letting you go.”

“You—” Seri’s words cut off on a scream as something slammed into the back of the car.

“FUCK!” Severo yelled, hitting the accelerator, automatically taking the car out of autonomous mode.

“Language!” Seri screamed. The man was attempting to comfort Skya, who had started crying at the collision.

“Really?! You are worrying about that now?!”

“YES!” Seri snapped.

He looked in the mirrors, noting there was a black SUV gaining behind them. The red dent he saw told him that they had been the one who hit them. The windows on the vehicle were completely black, with no way to see who was inside.

“They are closing in again,” Seri said frantically.

“I know... FRICK!" he fake swore as the SUV hit them again.

Fuck, did he wish he was in his own car. There was no way they could outrun them. While his vehicle had no locks on it, rentals, and most other cars, had speed and sometimes direction locks in place. Severo was going to guess the SUV chasing them was not like most other cars.

He growled when the vehicle slammed into them again. They really were trying to crash a car with a fucking baby inside.

Severo, seeing the vehicle getting ready hit them again, glanced at Seri—there was fear in the Nymph’s eyes. And then the man was screaming as the SUV rammed into them, driving them forward out of control, sending them spinning towards a guard rail.

With the guard rail careening towards them, at the last second, Severo twisted his body and grabbed the handle of Skya’s car seat with one hand, while at the same time yanking the necklace off Seri with his other. With the shadowy tendrils that were an extension of his own shadow, he latched onto them both, dragging the father and daughter into the Shadow Realm with him, leaving their shadows in their original places.

Landing hard on his ass on the pavement, Severo let out a grunt of pain. Still twisted, he managed to awkwardly keep hold of Skya, even as the bottom of her car seat banged slightly against the ground. Seri landed next to him with a gasp of pain of his own while Skya let out a scared cry.

Their rental car crashed head-first into the guard rail, in a loud crunch of metal, and a woosh as fire leaped up.

Severo took a calming breath. “Sorry, I would have done that more smoothly, but there wasn’t time.”

He glanced over as Skya continued to cry when Seri didn’t respond.
