“Severo…he manipulated her, didn’t he? I’m not misunderstanding the situation, am I?”

“You aren’t. I would bet that her parents were in on at least part of it. A rebellious child, wanting to leave. What better way to keep her there than for her to marry someone with no intention of leaving?”

“He controlled her life too…”

Of course, he had. The man clearly had secrets. He likely had done it out of self-preservation, though Severo was sure that Robert had been trying to control Avery since she married him.

“Keeping control of her was the best way to keep her from finding out what he had done,” Severo stated with a grimace.

Seri growled. “I may hit him.”

“I’ll tell them he attacked first.”

Seri looked at him, brow raised. “He will likely be cuffed. How does that even work?”

Severo chuckled. “Shh, I’m with the CEB, they will just nod and say sure, we believe you.”

“Sure, they will.” The Nymph rolled his eyes and started forward again.

“They will, I tell you. Cops love me…when I’m not pointing out their incompetence.”

“You’ve done that?”

“A few times.”

Seri frowned. “Doesn’t seem like you.”

Oh…had he never talked down to anyone when Seri was there… There was that airport attendant… Well…he supposed Seri would find out eventually that he wasn’t that nice to everyone. Reporters aside… “To be honest, I can be a real ass to people if I think they deserve it.”

As they walked into the police station, Seri began to very much hope that Severo had not been lying about being an ass to people, because he wasn’t sure he could hit his father, even if he said he wanted to. He was pretty sure he may freeze up when he saw him.

Seri eyed the blue triangle shaped front desk with trepidation. There was no one there…but there was some sort of intercom system.

“Let’s tell them we are here and, yeah…” Severo grabbed his hand and pulled him over to the desk. Pressing a button, the Dweller said their names aloud before releasing it.

A brief second later, a tall man with bright pumpkin orange hair, and eyes that looked to have stars in them, came out to greet them. Seri wasn’t sure what he was, but looking into his eyes was like staring out into space.

“Hello, you two must be Seri and Severo? I’m Bennie Roche, the Chief of Police here in Lowville. Cyrus’ friend.” The man held out his hand and Severo shook it.

Seri lightly did, out of politeness.

Bennie cleared his throat. “I’d say it was nice to meet you two, but the circumstances being what they are, I won’t. I was the one who was originally sent to pick up your mother, Seri,” the man said, eyes fixed on him.

“I see…” he murmured awkwardly, not sure what else to say to that.

“Someone should be taking Robert Lowen to an interrogation room as we speak. Just so you are aware, we are pressing charges, but as a favor to Cyrus, you two can go in and talk to him.”

“May I do a little interrogating myself?” Severo asked. “I received an email on the way over here with some interesting information on your prisoner.”

Seri’s brow rose at that. “You did?”

“I checked it when we arrived. I haven’t read it all yet, but I can wing it. After you have a chance to talk to him, that is, Seri. Though, if you don’t want me to, I won't.”

Seri stared blankly, just thinking, before turning to Bennie. “As long as he says it’s fine…”

Bennie shrugged. “Be my guess. Just nothing violent, please. I don’t want to have to explain away any bruises.”

Severo smirked. “Thank you.”
