Seri glanced back up at that, brow raised.
Cyrus stared, face blank. “I’m not hiring him because he’s your boyfriend.”
Severo huffed. “You totally should though! Like, we all should stick together! Just think, during lunch we could have a double date! HIRE MY BOYFRIEND, HE IS SMART!”
Seri rolled his eyes. His boyfriend was such a dork… Adorable, but a dork. And that was saying something, with him being a science nerd.
Shaking his head, he looked back down, scrolling more. How did it still feel like he was doom scrolling, even if these damn houses were closer to what they wanted?!
Cyrus scoffed. “Killian would kill me if I even suggested a double date to him. So, no.”
“Oh, come on! He made a chemical to incapacitate my kind! Think of all the other things he could do with his big beautiful brain.”
Seri scoffed.
Cyrus let out a heavy sigh. “If there is an opening, and he passes all the checks, then maybe.”
“AWWW, COME ON!”
“Seri, how are you the younger one in the relationship? I don’t get it.”
Seri felt his face heat a bit as his full-blown social awkwardness came rushing forward. Ugh…yes, he didn’t know Cyrus, but for fuck's sake, he didn’t react this way with Killian! Why now?!
Slowly looking up, he plastered a smile on his face and cleared his throat. “Umm… He’s older, but young at heart. I think it’s a good thing.”
“Your headache…” The man shook his head. “So, you two came and didn’t bring the baby?”
He wasn’t sure…because he really didn’t know the man, but it sounded like he was a bit put out about that. “We did,” Seri corrected.
“Then where…”
Severo chuckled evilly. “I’ll let you take a guess.”
“AGAIN!?” Cyrus yelled, before spinning and taking off.
Severo pressed a button on the keyboard, and spun in his chair toward him. “Well, now that he is gone, and I am done, what about breakfast? I know this lovely private place we could go.”
Seri frowned. “Can we even go anywhere? We stayed in the last two weeks because of the reporters…and see how that went. Someone broke in.”
At least it had given him time to fully recuperate from his leg injury. The scar was still rough, but he no longer limped.
“Well, you see, I may have bought out the place for the morning. So, once the sun rises, it shall be ours, and only ours, until noon.”
His eyes widened. “You…bought out a place?”
“Wait, don’t freak out about how much. I just wanted to take you out. Let you breathe some…well, restaurant air, before we have to hide again,” the Dweller said earnestly.
Seri slowly smiled. “Let’s do it.”
“YES!!”
He giggled when Severo pumped his arm and wiggled in his seat, doing a little happy dance.
Killian staredinto Skya’s wide golden eyes, and she stared back. Instead of focusing on Seri’s mysterious existence, he’d been locked in this battle of wills for at least three to five minutes now. He didn’t actually know how long, because if he looked away, he’d fucking lose!
“Who’s winning?”
He glanced up on habit, cursing in his head on seeing Cyrus. “Well, she did now!”
