Seri thought about it…and surprisingly, the answer was a resounding…yes. He did. He wanted it. He’d worked so hard for it. It was something he’d been striving for all his life. Even if all his life wasn’t that long in Cryptid time. Yet…was he ready for it right now?
“I think…I need to work on me… As it would probably be a good thing to be able to go outside at night, and sit in a dark room without losing it first.”
Severo smiled. “Honestly, I just brought it up as something to think about. Like I said, we have a long, long, life ahead of us. There is no rush. Take as much time as you want. Take years. School will be there waiting for you. Eventually, you’ll get to where you want to be.”
“Yeah, slow is good.”
“Now, why don’t we head out? I think it’s time for me to quit my job. And then after…shopping!”
“You are quitting today?” he asked, before frowning at the second part. “Shopping? For what?”
“Yes, today is the day! Before my leave ends. And as for shopping…” The man eyed him. “Everything?”
Seri glanced down and grimaced. Even the shoes he was wearing were oversized. To add on, now that he thought about it, there were some things Skya needed… Severo also seemed to only have one of everything. One cup, one plate, one fork…one knife….
Seri giggled. “Everything sounds about right. We’d have starved this past week without deliveries.”
“That we would have!”
Seri sat there letting Severo push him around again, Skya in his lap. The man insisted he sit in the wheelchair to conserve his energy for shopping later. Seri wouldn’t be surprised if the Dweller somehow got him in a chair at the mall as well. He was only slightly limping now, and while it may have worsened when he overdid things, Seri was doing better. He likely wouldn’t even be limping by the end of next week.
“I shouldn’t be too long. Wait here and I’ll come get you when things are finished up,” Severo told him as they entered Killian’s office.
“Okay.”
The man leaned down and kissed him on the cheek. Smiling, he kissed him back, but on the lips. “I’ll be here. Hope it goes well.”
“Bah!” Skya huffed in irritation, his little dewdrop still very unhappy about someone beside her getting a kiss from him.
Smile hesitant, he faced the man who was currently staring at him…more glaring.
“Does my office look like a daycare?” Killian huffed. The man pushed his floating screens out of the way to more pointedly glare at Severo.
“Have fun!” the Dweller said before he scurried away without even acknowledging that his friend had said something.
Seri plastered a hopefully more believable smile on his face and slowly said, “Killian Neftlem…right? Umm, I’m Seri North…though I suppose you know that.”
The man waved at the empty chair in front of his desk. “I know that, and much, much more.”
Seri stood up with Skya in his hold, and approached slowly. He sat down, setting Skya back on his lap.
Killian’s gaze flicked to Skya. The man reached down, there was the sound of a drawer opening, followed by some rustling. Seri’s jaw dropped when the guy pulled out a giant cookie from his desk and handed it over to his child, before he could even think of stopping him.
Skya, the cookie fiend, of course grabbed it with a squeal. “IG OOKIE!”
Who just hands someone else’s child a cookie?!
Severo foundthe door to Cyrus's office open. The Fate looked up when he knocked lightly on the frame of the doorway.
“Severo,” Cyrus grunted. “Come in.”
Severo closed the door behind him and sat down in the chair across from Cyrus. They eyed each other for a moment, before he cleared his throat and said, “I’m quitting.”
Cyrus released a woosh of air. “Is it because of me?”
Severo snorted. “No. Mind you, I’m still pissed. But I wouldn’t quit because of that. Though, maybe I would. I need to be able to trust you with my safety. How can I when you pull shit like that?”
“I would never put you at risk.”
