Seri frowned. “Wait, how much did you buy?”

“Bah!” Skya whined. He glanced back down. She was pouting. Her little fists snagged onto the generic shirt the hospital had given him as she glared at Severo.

“Oh, how dare I take your daddy’s attention away,” Severo sniffled dramatically.

Seri smiled, and grabbing a tissue off the desk, he rubbed her nose. “Sorry, dewdrop, you can have all my attention. Oh-Oh has to do some work anyway.”

The Dweller sighed behind him. “Well, the man who just fled as if the office was on fire, was Killian. A friend. Stay here, I’ll be super quick and then we’ll go home, okay?”

“Mmm,” Seri hummed, nodding, not looking back, even when he heard the man leave. He wasn’t sure what Severo would have seen on his face. All he knew is that he didn’t want the Dweller to see the only clear emotion he felt at the moment—confusion.

Because too many questions remained. What home did Seri have left to go back to? He was free, but…what did he do now? His mind went to that assignment Lance had given him… It would have been nice if he’d gotten a chance to start it… It really was his own fault for making excuses and putting it off…

Seri met Skya’s gaze. His heart clenched. She was staring at him with wide eyes, gripping tightly onto him, like she thought he’d disappear. Seri licked his lips, and ran his hand over her hair. “We are going to be okay, Skya. I promise.”

Seri just wished he was as sure inside as he sounded out loud…

Severo hunched over his desk, trying to find wherever his tablet had gone, and having no luck. One issue he was having was that his hands were shaking so badly due to nerves that he kept knocking things over. He stopped, placed his hands on his desk, and just leaned there, taking deep breaths.

Things would be fine, he told himself. Maybe… He planned to confess to Seri when they got home. So, well, that could go one of two ways. Either cuddles…or him sobbing quietly at night eating a tub of ice cream while watching unrealistic rom-coms.

On top of all those emotions…there was the whole ‘did he even want to keep his job anymore’ thing… Not to mention his fucked up relationship with his… He wasn’t sure what Cyrus was to him anymore…

“You okay?”

He jerked back, knocking a pile off his desk at the sound of Killian’s voice.

“Ah…that’s where my tablet was,” he said almost awkwardly, on spotting the thing right where the pile had just been.

Clearing his throat, Severo bent down and started to pick up the mess he'd just created. Killian bent down and helped.

He didn’t glance over. He just stayed silent, because honestly, he wasn’t sure if he was okay. Severo was unbelievably relieved and happy to have Seri free, away from Preston, and the fucker locked up. It was just everything else.

“Judging by the awkward silence, I’m guessing the answer is no,” Killian drawled as they both straightened up.

Severo eyed the man with a sigh. “It’s…complicated.”

The Siren snorted. “Isn’t everything? But as for your issue with Cyrus…that’s just a pure, oddly functioning thought process on his part.”

Severo scoffed and sat the papers in his hands down, not on his tablet this time, and crossed his arms.

“Not to defend him, but he doesn’t think like you and I. That doesn’t excuse it, of course. But don’t go trying to throw away a friendship over this.”

Frankly, Severo personally believed that Killian and Cyrus thought similar enough. They both were weirdos, with Killian being on the scarier side of weird.

“‘This’ being him letting some maniac blow up the building the love of my life and hopefully future child were in?” Severo said stiffly.

Killian winced. “Is it that serious?”

“Yes!”

“Did Cyrus know?”

“I told him I felt more. That Seri was different. If he couldn’t figure it out from that then maybe he should at least feign some interest in my life. Or maybe not. I don’t know what he thinks of me. As at this point, I don’t know if we ever were friends, or if I was just making shit up in my head!” Severo snapped. Snagging the tablet, he stormed off.

Killian sighedas he watched Severo stomp away. “This is why I stayed single for so long…men cause such drama…”

Cyrus had fucked up, so now he was going to have to talk about feelings and all that garbage—yuck… That dumb, emotionally impaired boyfriend of his…
