“You almost died. It’s probably related to that,” Harlow stated, as he squinted and started to lean forward towards his screen again.
Foxx giggled.
The human glanced up. “What?”
“I think you need reading glasses.”
Harlow grimaced. “I don’t.”
“Yes, as all people squint when they read.”
“Shut up.”
Foxx snickered, but didn’t say anything more. He eyed the chunky piece of crap Harlow was working on. Oh, how he wished to break it. “So, working on paperwork?”
“I finished that while you were sleeping. You’re welcome,” Harlow grunted. “I’m checking the missing paranormals database to see if areas where paranormal hospitals are located have higher disappearance rates than other places.”
Foxx blinked. “How is that going?”
“Badly.”
“Let me guess, the hospitals that accept paranormals are so spread out that they get patients from many miles away, in all directions, preventing any sort of missing persons pattern from showing.”
“Pretty much.”
“You’ll probably need access to hospital records to have any chance of trying to pin down a pattern. Which you won’t be able to get because you are not on the case. Are the Guild’s witches working on this?”
“If it’s serious enough they will likely set both hunters and witches to the task.”
“I see.”
Silence fell between them as Harlow typed away. Foxx scooted over a bit, his eyes glued to Harlow’s craptop. It would be so easy to end its life. He glanced up at the human. Making sure he wasn’t paying too much attention, he scooted forward again. The back of the screen right there, he peaked over the edge. Harlow met his gaze with a raised brow. He knew the drastic measure he was about to take would label him a cat, but some sacrifices were worth it.
Foxx fluttered his lashes at him, and slowly titled the lid of the laptop back towards him with his finger. He innocently rested his mouth along the edge of the screen.
“What are you…”
* * *
Harlow criedout in horror when Foxx bit down. There was a spark as the vampire’s fangs punctured into the screen. His laptop flickered once before going completely black.
Harlow clenched and unclenched his fists. “You—I—my—OHHH.” Harlow took a deep breath as he tried to push back the rage.
The vampire looked down and gasped, “Oh no! It broke… What are we going to do?”
“FOXX!”
“I didn’t mean to! I really didn’t,” Foxx said with a whine.
“What did you think would happen when you bit it?!” Harlow roared.
“It was just a little nibble.”
“You punctured my screen!”
“I said I was sorry!”
“When?!”
