Neither would die from the wounds, but they’d be incapacitated enough that attacking would be hard. The one he stabbed, his movements and actions would be dulled.
The third backed away, probably trying to avoid a similar fate. But it was no use. Not even hesitating, he tackled the third vampire to the ground. Pulling out the short sword from his back sheath, he brought it down quickly, severing the man’s head.
Harlow was grabbed from behind, and he grunted as he found himself flung into the wall. His head slammed hard, and he landed on the ground with a thump. Head now throbbing, and feeling slightly dazed, he blinked in confusion as he spotted Foxx sitting there in a small alcove, watching with a smile. What the fuck?
The still whole seven vampires were on him then, as apparently, none were brave enough to attack Foxx.Thank fuck for guns, he thought, as he shot three of them in the head, as the others grappled with him.
It took a good thirty minutes for him to take everyone down. Foxx had not jumped into the fight per se, but he had pulled a few off of him a time or two.
Harlow ended up having to hack the head off the last vampire with a knife, having lost hold of his sword a while ago. When the knife finally made it through, Harlow let out a gasping breath as he sat his ass down on the muck-covered floor and took a breather. He was coated in blood, his head was throbbing, and his body was aching even more than it had been before he entered this fight.
A loud whistle and clapping broke the silence. “Well done, well done. By the Goddess, that was hot!” Foxx said with a husky rasp as he approached.
Harlow’s brow rose a bit as he noted the bulge that was currently at eye level. Foxx…had apparently not been lying about finding violence a turn on…
“Have fun watching?” Harlow drawled.
“I did.” Foxx giggled.
“Didn’t think about killing a few more?”
“Oh, you didn’t need help from little old me, did you? I thought you were supposed to come in and finish the rest?” the vampire chimed sweetly.
He glared. “You fucking lied about your age.”
Foxx blinked. “It’s rude to speculate on someone’s age.”
“So, I’ll stop speculating. How old are you really?”
“It’s rude to ask someone about their age,” Foxx cried with fake outrage.
“You’re not a woman. That doesn’t apply.” With a groan, Harlow pushed up and off the floor. He took a stumbling step as his head swayed a bit.
“Woman or not, it’s still rude!” Foxx said as his hands came up to steady Harlow.
He brushed the vampire away. “You are still full of shit and lied about your age to the government.”
“I plead the fifth.”
Harlow snorted. “Let’s toast this bitch and head home.”
“I’ll go get the accelerant!” Foxx practically skipped away.
He would have shaken his head in exasperation…but it hurt too much. Sighing, he stood there and waited.
It had been a task to get Harlow to agree to let Foxx drive his Jeep Grand Cherokee. But he had managed through perseveration, after a quick trip to a local emergency room. Apparently, any injuries on the job had to be documented for the paperwork, and to determine if the hunter was still fit for duty. Luckily, none of the human’s injuries were serious. One of the nicer nurses there also let Foxx and Harlow take a shower. Though that may have been more because they were scaring the other patients. Walking around covered in blood in public was not societally recommended.
They had decided to only drive halfway back for tonight. Foxx didn’t mind driving that long, but he agreed easily, figuring Harlow was tired after today.
“Have you read any good books lately?” Foxx asked.
“No,” Harlow grunted. The human was in the passenger seat, eyes closed, and he was leaning his head against the window.
“Pity. I would share the last book I read, but it was a romance, and I’d doubt you’d be interested,” Foxx said with a hum.
Harlow just grunted in response.
“Are the nests you run across usually that young? Though I suppose it doesn’t matter, young or not, all of them had killed someone recently. But, like, do you run into groups of older vampires? I know you have since you’ve run across some with powers… Wait, will most of our cases be vampires?”
