“That’s besides the point!”
“What even is the point?”
Foxx groaned. The point was, he wanted Harlow to like him. And while he didn’t think they got along horribly… There were moments when the human obviously was thinking about…shooting him. Yes, that was the feeling he got. Of course, there were moments Foxx was feeling the same, but still!
“My dear, Foxx. Perhaps you must accept that your partner is used to doing things alone. No doubt he is a loner, if he’s been doing this longer than it has been legal. My suggestion is to give it time. You just started. Of course, there will be some bumps in the road. Partnerships aren’t formed in a day.”
“I just want it to work out…I think I built up having a partner in my head, and I can’t help but feel upset that it’s not playing out as I thought it would.”
“That’s because you are impatient. Give it time. And if, after giving it time, it still doesn’t feel right, find a new partner. While the council encouraged vampires to join this escapade, I’m sure there are still plenty of human hunters waiting for a partner. The other paranormal councils are still debating, or have already turned them down. So you should have a good selection to choose from.”
“But I don’t want someone else. I want Harlow,” Foxx cried.
Alastair chuckled and booped his nose. “Stop whining.”
Foxx stuck his bottom lip out at him and went to whine some more when his phone began to ring. Snatching it off the coffee table, his eyes widened at the sight of Harlow’s name. “It’s Harlow!” he gasped.
“Well, go on, answer it, you dork.” He looked down at him, clearly exasperated.
Foxx cleared his throat and accepted the call. “Foxx here. How may I help you, Harlow?”
Alastair lifted a brow at his overly sweet tone.
He stuck out his tongue at his friend. The man just rolled his eyes in response.
There was a throat clearing on the other side, and then Harlow mumbled something too soft for Foxx to hear.
“Ah…sorry, Harlow, what was that? I couldn’t hear you. Perhaps the connection is weak.”
“My house blew up. Can I stay with you?” Harlow grumbled loudly this time.
Foxx's eyes widened. “You want to stay here?”
“Temporarily! Only temporarily. It’s going to take some time for the insurance to figure shit out and then rebuild…so, yeah. I know it’s weird that I'm asking you. But I don’t have anyone in the area that I could stay with.”
Harlow wanted to stay here? Here?! With him?! It was like bells were going off in his head, the wind chiming them along with this golden opportunity falling into his lap. HARLOW WOULDN’T BE ABLE TO ESCAPE!
He would have no choice but to be Foxx’s friend now! They would bond! Maybe even fuck! Oh, the Goddess had shined her moonlight down on him, blessing him with her favors and loveeee!
“Foxx? FOXX?!” Harlow calling his name snapped him out of celebrating.
“Oh! Yes. I’m here, yes?”
“So, can I stay?” the man growled, sounding irritated. “I can pay rent.”
“Yes, you can! I have plenty of room. And I don’t need your money. I own this place. And I don’t really have the necessary permits to rent it anyway.” His mind screeched to a halt as the reason Harlow had to stay with him finally caught up with his overwhelming need to celebrate. “Wait, you said your house blew up? Are you okay?”
The man grunted. “I’m fine. I’ll explain when I get there. Just give me your address.”
“I’m located in the Inner Village in Hazard at The Silver Hollow. My unit number is 613, on the sixth floor. Let’s see, the gate code for the Inner Village is 1043. That changes weekly, by the way, so I’ll have to get you set up to receive the codes. There is no building code for The Silver Hollow, but there is a guard. I’ll let them know you are coming, and that you will need a lift key. You’ll have to show them your ID. I can let you use my extra key for my apartment for now, until I can get another made.” Foxx paused, thinking on what else Harlow would need to know. “Oh! Right, the parking! It is an underground garage that is used by multiple buildings in the area. My spots are labeled with my unit number and the condominium’s name. There should be signs to direct you to the right area. When you get here…I’d say just text me… Do you text? I suppose you could just knock on the door.”
“I’ll call when I park. Thank you,” Harlow said with a grunt before hanging up.
Foxx laughed as he pulled his phone away from his ear. “Bestie! I have new hope!”
“I heard… Are you sure this is wise?” Alastair asked with a frown.
“It’s perfect! Now he won’t have any choice but to be my friend!”
