It doesn’t matter how many times I do it, I still get nervous on every single flight I take and today is no exception. The private jet does make me feel a little more secure and a little less like I’m being watched and judged by every passenger. However, I can definitely feel the laser focus of the man seated opposite me; there is no way he’s going to miss my nerves — he notices everything.
“You don’t like flying, do you?” He leans forward in his seat, his gaze on me is piercing.
“Not particularly,” I mumble.
“Why didn’t you say anything? I would have driven us.”
“Because this takes less than an hour and a half, whereas driving would take us six hours. Anyway, it’s nothing. I’m fine.”
“It is not nothing; you’re shaking, Bella.”
The plane is taxiing down the runway, within seconds we’ll be in the air and I am absolutely terrified. I’m not so bad once we’re up in the air, but take-off and landing are the worst. I close my eyes, willing myself to calm down.
“Shit.” I hear his muttered curse, but don’t bother opening my eyes, or even acknowledging him. That is until I feel him undoing the seatbelt over my lap. My eyes fly open just in time to see him reach for me and lift me straight out of my seat and into his lap.
“Reed, what are you doing?”
“I’m not going to sit across from you and watch you struggle. I can’t change the fact that we’re on this flight, but I can damn well comfort you while we are.”
Holy crap!
Bossy Reed is hot, like seriously smoking hot.
I fidget on his lap, trying to ease the ache between my thighs — an ache caused by his words.
“Keep still,” he grunts.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to hurt you.”
“You’re not hurting me. You weigh nothing, it would be impossible for you to hurt me. Just stop wriggling on my lap —fuck.” His head drops to my shoulder at the same moment I feel the reason for his curse.
Reed has an erection.
An absolutely massive erection that is currently digging into my ass cheek.
“Oh.” I have no words. How fucking big is he?
“Yeah, oh,” he mutters into my neck, his head still buried in my shoulder. “Just ignore it.”
“Kind of hard to do.” He snickers at my choice of words. “Oh my God, you’re such a child.”
His laughter puffs against the skin of my neck causing goosebumps to break out across my skin.
It’s only now I realize the plane has leveled out. He certainly didn’t mean to do it the way he did, but he’s distracted me from the biggest fear of my life, I relax into his hold.
“Feeling better?” He gently strokes a piece of hair back from my face.
Does he realize what he’s doing? The ideas he’s planting in my head by holding me like this?
“Reed…” I’m not sure what I was going to say anyway, but I don’t get to finish my words.
“Shh,” he places his finger against my lips. “Don’t say anything, just let me hold you. While we’re up here, away from everything, let me believe this could be real.”
I close my eyes so he doesn’t see the hurt. I should have known this could never be more. But knowing he feels something too? That makes it so much harder to not want it with everything I have.
