Chapter 33

God is a Woman

Renée

When Jonah suggests a walk to “burn off the nerves,” it’s an easy yes. He loads up a backpack with God knows what, and we follow the main trail between his pasture and woods. My right hand brushes along the wildflowers that are still hanging on to the last bit of their season. Jonah holds my left.

He points out all the plants he’s investigated—to which I politely remind him the correct term isresearched—and pride fills me with everything he’s learned.

Somewhere along our walk, the humor fades into something softer. The breeze hums with it—the quiet kind of tension that feels like standing in the sun too long.

We stop when we reach the little creek that bends and snakes through the trees. “You okay now?” he asks.

I nod. “Yeah. I think so.”

And just like that, we’re kissing. I can taste his coffee and the remnants of his toothpaste. Every bit of relief flows between us like we share one body. When he pulls me closer, everything in me relaxes.

That is, until things turn indecent. I mean, is itmyfault he’s so much taller than me and his ass is easier to grab than his shoulders? Is ithisfault that the rod between his legs keeps pushing into my stomach?

Okay, yes to both, but we’re not on trial here.

What we are is hungry.

Jonah breaks the kiss to dig through his backpack. I’mabout to protest, but he retrieves a blanket and lays it out.

“What a good little boy scout.”

Grinning and proud of himself, he sits and extends his hand for me to join. We both kick off our shoes and resume our makeout session. I pin him down and he makes no effort to fight his fate.

“You like it when I’m in charge. When I’m on top of you like this.”

He palms my ass and groans, “I’m exactly where I want to be.”

I pull gently at his bottom lip and release it before whispering in his ear, “Let me thank you for what you did today.”

His neck is so close to my face that I can feel his Adam’s apple bob. “I’ll do whatever you say,” he huffs.

I lift the bottom of his T-shirt, bunching it at the top, and kiss a trail down his torso. “I know you will.”

“Is there anything I should know before I play with you, Jonah?”

“Um... I like to keep it bare down there?”

I don’t even try to suppress my giggle. “No, puppy. When was the last time you were tested?”

Suddenly his bravado returns, and he stretches his arms behind his head. “Well, I got this hot professor neighbor who loves to grade me.” He smirks. “Does that count?” That smirk dies when I grab hold of his balls. “Five months ago! Everything is ship-shape!”

I release him... a little bit. “That was pretty long ago.”

“So?”

“Sooo, you may have contracted something by now.”

“But I haven’t been with anyone. That night at Strip Tease with you? That was the last time I was with someone. Well, until last week when we got freaky in your office with our clothes on.”

My brows furrow. “But that was back in February.”
