I frown. “We want different things. I’m respecting that, so stop trying to touch me.”

“How can I stop when your ass in those trousers is asking for it?”

“What?!”

“I’m here at the party, you’re here, it’s fate.” He crowds my space, and I step back. “Let’s let fate happen and do what we do best.”

He tries to hold me again, and I shuck him off. “No!”

“Don’t you wanna fuck here on the beach?”

“Hell no. I just didn’t want my friends to see you. I wanted to privately tell you that I’m not interested in getting with you again.”

“We don’t have to get anything.” He grabs my waist, binding me up. “Except to get it on.”

He crashes his mouth into mine, and I try in vain to push away. I move my mouth around him and mutter. “No…get the fuck off…”

“Come on, baby.” He pushes his lips on mine, and I struggle to get free. “You know you want this dick.”

“You’rethe dick!” His huge arms hold me in place, and panic sets in. “Get off and get out of my life!”

“That’s not what you really want.”

“Stop!” I continue to try to shove him off. I’m going to be a victim, aren’t I? My eyes sting, and I continue to try to kick or push him off, to no avail.

“Just let this happen!”

“No!”

“You know you want?”

His words are cut off, and he’s gone from my body. I gasp and fall to the sand, trying to regain my bearings. When I look up in the darkness, it takes a moment to understand what’s happening.

Andrew is struggling in the air. He’s being held up by…purple tentacles?

“What…what the fuck?” Andrew yelps.

A kraken shifter has his hands tied up. In moments, his feet and mouth get bound up as well. The purple creature drags him along the sand towards the water. In my fear and confusion, I find myself following them.

The monster dangles Andrew above the waves. “Leave…Skyler…alone,” he growls. That voice…

“Reed?” I ask.

“Do you UNDERSTAND me?!” The kraken howls at Andrew as he’s bound above the water. My ex seems to be crying, and I’dbe lying if I said it wasn’t satisfying. The dude just tried to assault me two seconds ago.

“Mmph,” Andrew says with a mouth wrapped in tentacle.

“Skyler is under the protection of the beings of the ocean. If you ever touch him or talk to him again, I will find you and bring you to your watery grave. Do I make myself clear?” I’m frozen in shock, and in the night sky, Andrew’s eyes well up. The kraken lets him slip an inch down. “I said, DO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR?”

Andrew nods. In a blur, he’s flung to another part of the beach, landing on his torso. In moments, he runs off, like the insecure punk I’ve known him to be. To my left, my four friends appear.

“Skyler, what happened?” Karlo asks, dashing up to me. They all look distressed, but not as confused as me.

I turn back to my kraken savior, to see him gone. His head disappears into the water, and in the dark, I’m the only one to witness him. I approach my friends and shake my head. “Um…”

“Are you okay?” Ardsley asks.

Karlo touches my bare shoulder, and I nod. “I’m fine, I just...”
